....12...mercury race..heat one..coppins...heat two...fahey..
....13..ernie spragues gtho..quarter sprint.best speed...141.6...mph..
....15..name of clyde collins speedboat......clyde ankle...!!

Clyde Ankle - singing "High School Oo-Oo" on Stan Freberg's "Old Payola Roll Blues" - 50 years ago!! Surely I can't be that old.

Mercury $1000 Saloon Series - I guess there were at least 2 Ruapuna Rounds in the series. I was talking about the February 8 round, where the front row was Dawson Fahey Crosbie Thompson - pictures in Auto News 23 Feb and Motorman March 1970. Heat placings were (H1) Fahey Crosbie Coppins and (H2) Dawson Thompson Nazer as reported by both. But the judge's word is final, the moving finger writes... etc. Didn't have the later Auto News, was busy getting married and going overseas.

thank you for your participation.....!!!.

Thank you for your efforts in setting these things, Ron. Polly and I are proud to have won one, and are looking forward to the next. Sorry to hear it's a bit damp down your way - we've been seeing dramatic flood pics on our TVs here in the UK.

You will be sad (or maybe happy!) to know that Hobsonville Air Base has closed. Being turned into residential and schools. One of those 2-storey officers houses overlooking the water would be nice. RNZAF now all at Whenuapai just up the road from us (wenoopy = QLD RSL raffle seller version of 'Whenuapai"; we thought it was cute, so adopted it as unofficial house name and email addr).
Highly Recommended?? At least a Gold Star out of Petty Cash, surely!

I watched her chat with Don Lane on youtube last night, what a good sort. Tidy, AND quick ! But sharp, too. Wouldn't surprise to discover she broke 300 in the jet, but it's VERY hard to find so far...

Some would say quite a Babe! ;)

Sue is, without question, a very nice lady...

Somewhat older than in that pic now, in fact, she was older than that when I saw her about twelve or thirteen years ago!
