Argentine former F1 racer Clemar Bucci had died at Buenos Aires at 90 years old, yesterday, January 12th, 2011. Bucci was one of the last surviving F1 drivers of the 1950s. Today will be his funeral at the zone of Belgrano, in the city of Buenos Aires. Unfortuately, by the Dakar coverage the new is still to be put by local motorsport websites.

Another sad news after Dick Gibson. Sr. Bucci was full of life right to the end, not many 89-year-olds use e-mail I would think. A hugely popular and respected man by all that knew him and rightly so.

Personally I met Mr. Bucci only once in my lifetime, in 2005 during the Leyendas en Pista exposition at the Autódromo of Buenos Aires. He attended a press conference then and after that I had a small chat with him. He was charming, ever-smiling, and was with his son when he came that time.

I became something of a Clemar Bucci fan back in 1954 when Raymond Baxter's description of him as 'The Flying Argentinian' rather capturered my young imagination. At that time Clemar was one of that band of colourful South American drivers competing in Europe, in his case, as a works Gordini driver. I had a good close up view of him at the 54 British Grand Prix after he had stuffed the Gordini into the earth safety bank at Copse Corner. An exciting driver indeed!. I recall reading that while testing the ill fated Cisitalia/Autoar in Argentina in 1953, Bucci was brave enough to engage the experimental four wheel drive system, with spectacular results!. I was sorry to hear of his passing, but pleased that he had enjoyed such a long life. He has a cracking web site by the way.

Thank you for that, Eric. One of the most stylish websites I have seen. Very sorry to hear of his passing.

Glad that you've found it Alan. Its an excellent web site, and the soundtrack is especially nice to hear on a bleak winter day.

Very neat that you can choose one of three musical accompaniments, or none at all. It's a shame that there's only one very poor photo of the Cisitalia/Autoar (or at least only one that I could find).

RIP Clemar Bucci.

Indeed he was a charming and ever-smiling man. I talked with him a couple of times back in 2006 and he was absolutely kindly. Unfortunately, I could only talk with him by phone since, by then, his health was not going well.

RIP Señor Bucci :(

A huge shame. This isn't turning out to be the best of years already is it?

A long life, well lived - but I always felt Bucci was an underrated driver. I also had email correspondence with him and he was a real gentleman, very polite.

RIP

As a tribute, here is his business card. Stylish and elegant, just as the man himself.
