Dick Jacobs' early MG racing photos

Dick Jacobs in his MG racing had a large collection of photographs from early 1947 up to his racing teams in the 1970's. These were auctioned in early 2009 by Andrew Currie on eBay. Currie's do not know who they went to.

Does anyone know where the photo collections went to and specifically I am interested in the early racing photographs of his MG TA supercharged special (CS7695) in UK national events and in the Isle of Man?

You're correct that Andrew Currie was selling the Dick Jacobs / Mill Garage personal photo collection. But they were split up, rather than sold as a collection on ebay. It was around July/August/ September 2009 when they were being sold off. I purchased a couple with 1960s BMC content. You might find something by the feedback, otherwise you need to ask in specific MG circles.

Thanks Stephen for the tip - it worked,

I have gone through 300 pages of feedback on eBay! and have located where the photos of the car went in 2009. Now contacting members to see if I can get a copy of the shots.

If you add some details here on the specific car you're looking for photos of, there's half a chance a fellow TNF member will have something too.

To Cooper997 and Lang65,
Re Dick Jacobs and his special CS7695.
I found out only in September 2010 that the MG I bought back in 1965 was Dick' Special CS7695. Since then I have been trying to find any information and pictures of the man and the car.
Dick's book 'An MG Experience' does of course give a fair bit of info and pictures but there is alot more I would like to find.
The car is now in rebuild and I am attempting to rebuild it as Dick had it but am lacking in details.
Would love to talk.

I'm not likely to be much help on the MG help front. Despite my late father & uncle being MG focussed. I went the Mini Cooper path.

Also, I don't think Lang65 has been seen since his initial postings on this thread. But there should be plenty of MG people able to help. Try sending a personal message to Matthew Magilton, through TNF's pm system (or he might read this). He may have some information or be able to give you a good contact.

As I've mentioned in post #2 I purchased a couple of BMC related photos from the Jacobs archive at the time Andrew Currie was selling them on Ebay. Going from my suggestion to Lang65 he must have had some success by going back through the feedback and then contacting the buyers.

You could also try sending a pm to Lang65 and hope he does drop by TNF occasionally. Failing that you could do the feedback thing too. acjcemc is Andrew Currie's ebay id - going back to his July/August/September 2009 to try to identify potential buyers. There's also a possibility that getting a letter published in an MG magazine might dig up some info about your Jacobs MG, too.

TA38, I own UHK 111, Dick's MG YB saloon that he drove to three class wins at Silverstone in 52,53 and 54. I am in touch with the owners of the Jacobs Y special and the MGA's. The Jacobs Midgets also survive and somewhere so does his TD that was restored for his dsughter 10 years ago or so. That has, however, disappeared off the radar. I must say we all thought his supercharged TA was long lost so its great news it is still with us. As I recall it was very heavily modified and had a Morris van engine? Anyway, at the Coys Jacobs auction I purchased two large 18 inch by 15 inch black and white photos that used to hang on the wall of Mill Garage. One showed UHK 111 at Silverstone (which is why I bought the pair), the other showed the TA at the Isle of Man race. It was a great photo and not one that I had seen before. I tried to track down Dick's TA but everyone thought it had been lost and no one was interested in the photo. In the end I sold it to author and automobillia dealer Jeremy Wood of Billinghurst. Last I spoke to him he had passed it on to someone who never got round to paying for it! Jeremy usually has a stall at the Goodwood Fos and Revival and I will have a chat with him when I see him next in case he has the address of the purchaser. Anyway, good luck with the TA - it would be good to see her back on the track. Marc.

Great to hear from you.
I bought the TA Special back in 1965 as a modified road car with no history. It was my only car and used for work and 'play', including a camping holiday for a fortnight in Newquay, Cornwall. At this time it was painted red and ran on twin SU carbs and thats all I knew at the time.
I had some minor mechanical woes which were repaired by a 'back street' garage who informed me on collection that the engine was not MG but Wolseley 10 hp.
I found out recently that this engine is exactly the same as the Morris apart from a small rivetted on name plate.
Anyway in 1967 the car was tired so I stripped it down with a view of rebuilding within a year or so... I then got married, had 3 kids, mortgage, lack of time and funds, although at all times I occasionally 'did a bit'.
In September 2010 I was made redundant as a 64 jear old and rec'd a letter through the DVLA from an Australian looking for my car which he had seen in Dick's book 'An MG Experience'.
I bought the book and am in constant contact with the OZ -Laclan Kinnear. I also re-started a rebuild.
Present state: the chassis has been full stripped, blasted and painted. Newly made road springs and trunnions etc added. Front axle with new King pins and fully cleaned steering links added.
The engine is sripped down and being cleaned ready for dimension check. Needs new pistons for definite - not sure yet what else!
Back axle and gearbox still to do.
The body was/is very basic and a fair bit remains.
I intend rebuilding as Dick had it, but do not know the shade of green or the upholstery (what their is) colour. For now I will reuse the carbs as Dick did for road use and some events depending on the rules. But if a suitable charger turns up at the right price then yes!
Sounds like the pcture is the one from the book, 1950 TT which was used by the event organisers for the next years brochure - would certainly be interested if it came to light.

I would suggest going to MG Live! this weekend where there will be many T series specials in a display and just about anyone who knows anything will be there.

This sounds great for the history of my car, I have the book of course but this sounds better. I am relatively new to the forum and also don't know how it works. I will pm my address if I find out how.

For what it's worth, if you do need to put an e-mail address in a post the easy way is to adulterate it.
Instead of anorak@someplace.com put anorak[@]someplace.com or anorak[at]someplace.com or simply put spaces in anorak @ someplace.com but someone might not notica and cut'n paste it.
If you fail to do this, you can have fun by replying to the "invest in my Nigerian cut price Viagra scheme" type posts and stringing them along by asking questions. There is a website with some hilarious examples but I was laughing too much to remember to bookmark it.
