I did a search and couldn't see anything on the first five pages [knowing my luck it was on the sixth!] so I was just wondering, what were the traditional numbers of some of the F1 teams of the 1980's and '90's? For example, Ferrari running 27/28, Tyrrell running 3/4... Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

This is good but Brian Redman drove a Shadow #31 in 1973 and in 74 there was a Shadow that drove with a number 40 and a number 10 both were painted Red so may have been a non team car. But these are the non traditional car numbers so may not apply to the question.
I know there were some McLaren private car drives so again non traditional. But McLaren had a number 40 for Giles and 30 for Jody and they were team cars so again not sure if it applies to the question.

One off entries at races in those days seem to have simply been given random numbers higher than the regular entry.

How those numbers were decided upon was, I suspect, simply on the whim of the organising club.
