Lee, what you have to recognise sometimes is that I was there...

I was looking over these cars closely on a regular basis. Of course, my memory might be failing me in some cases, but this was no removable alloy cover, it was steel sheeting welded into a box.

Just has a look at the pics in the Muscle Car article on that car and it has a big folded up box behind the firewall. With a Zuess fastened lid. But it looks to be and would have to be removeable otherwise the engine would be impossible to work on. And remove which was something that happened with Clevelands in that era a lot.

Car was still very new.
Maybe Mar 69 meeting at Symmons.

I recall Beechey mentioned at the meeting having ordered a new steering wheel from USA to suit the car.
When it turned up it was identical to the OZ GTS wheel as supplied on the car.

I ordered a new HK GTS Monaro in Warwick Yellow when they were released in late (Oct ?) 68 and it turned up in Tas
late Nov 68 so I had a bit of an interest in it at the time.

The SS Camaro/Vette wheel was what was used on the HKs. The black rim HT wheel was from the next year Camaro/Vette. The HQ on style wheel was also used on American sportys.
I have owned a Warwick yellow GTS too. 307 auto. One of the best colors though I have owned them in most colors over about 10 years from the mid 70s to early 80s. HK the original and the best!!

This is the pic that everyone is referring to. It was once on or maybe still is at the Motorsport Archive.

They were released well before that...

Bruce McPhee, if I recall correctly, won in one at Bathurst the first week in October.

Bob Leisk raced a brand new 327 Monaro at Caversham for the Christmas Cup meeting, held on 29 September 1968.

They had to be available (and numbers sold) by August to qualify for Bathurst...

They were definitely around well before the race.

Why do people go to great pains to build a whole replica car round an old chassis plate - surely it would be easier to make a replica of the chassis plate?
General observation, but it sorts of fits on this thread.

Ahh... there is the question of 'originality', you know!

And everyone knows where to look for the chassis plate...
