BOC Sponsored a Libre Chanpionship which was contested by a few regular car/driver combo's , along with the circuit favorites of the time .

What can be remembered of this series.?

I saw these at Snetterton a lot and on occasions Mallory Park , queue circuit experts .

Main contenders were Graham Eden Chevron as pictured in the Snetterton memories thread recently. Steve Thompson Brineton Engineering ? Chevron and Rod BPG Engineering Pickerings Brabham.

Odd one of appearances like Carlos Avalone F500 Lola, or John Jordans Ford GT40 sometimes graced these events.

According the Mike Kettlewell's Motor Racing Directory, BOC sponsored a libre series only one year, 1970 (won by Steve Thompson)

I agree, only 1970.

Race winners were Steve Thompson (Brineton Engineering 1.8-litre Chevron B17C-FVC) with 13 wins; Tony Dean (F2 Brabham BT23C-FVA), Rod Pickering (in the same car) and Tommy Reid (Irish Racing Cars [Mick Mooney] 1.8-litre Brabham BT30-FVC) each with two; Paul Craven (1600cc Chevron B17B-twin cam) and Robs Lamplough (F2 Lola T100-FVA). Graham Eden (F2 Chevron B10/17-FVA) finished second five times.

BTW, I have note of seven races at Mallory, four each at Snetterton and Oulton, three at Castle Comble, two at Mondello (both won by Reid) and one at Brands. Any entry lists Pete?

Not very 'libre' - nothing over 1600cc!

Lots of interesting cars on that entry list. Peter Wright's Emeryson has always intrigued me - anyone know what it was?

Andrew - I'm glad you mentioned them. My spam filter has been getting over-enthusiastic the last few days and has been taking away all sorts of useful stuff.

I have them now. Many thanks!
