In this day and age it's not a silly idea to do a search on Facebook (shudder). Some of those people at least are on

Not quite sure why you're shuddering David; I'm sure I've seen you out there............
Several of the Brits mentioned are BRDC members & can be contacted via the club.
(Feel free to PM me if you need a contact & e-mail address for this Ray)

These are all F5000 or big banger Sports Car drivers from Adelaide:-
Stan Keene - via his sons
Phil Moore - still around - try Sporting Car club
Keith Poole - as suggested son Mark
Chris Milton - has business listed in phone book
Stephen Fraser - have no contact details but Sporting car Club possible
Rob Butcher - was working Roxby Downs - Sporting Car Club
Peter "Chris" Middleton - saw him recently - still around. I bought his Nganti Ford 2.3 Pinto powered Boral Sports car, he bought Stan Keen's V8 Group A Boral/Elfin F5000 cars - then sold them and bought later F5000 Elfin which Vern Schuppan drove at Sandown AGP when he had epic dice with Goss in Matich.
Other F5000 drivers (I think) from Adelaide: (note some have sadly left us).
John Walker
Mel McEwin
Alan Nitschke
Greg Ferrall
Colin Trengove
See the Mallala photos - a F5000 Elfin MR5 (?) driven by ????
I used to do the Rothmans F5000 series programs for Bill and Judy Pickett at A.I.R.
I will check my oldies.....

Oh, and I'd like to add Derek Bell to the list, I had an e.mail address for him but it's been lost.

Thanks, Cirrus, good suggestion...

You'll get Gary Dumbrell via either of his sons. Lucas has his own V8 team - http://www.ldmotorsport.com.au/contact
But you'll want to hurry for Gary - he was looking very ill at Bathurst - not long to go now I'd think.

Some of the UK-based drivers were at Oulton Park in 2009 at the Gold Cup meeting. Try emailing the HSCC on office@hscc.org.uk . They should be able to put you in touch with the person who organised the get-together.

A little info.....
You should contact the Speed TV folk through their website for info about Hobbs, he's one of their tv talking heads for the F1 coverage here in the states.
John (JD) Briggs died some years ago, leukemia if I memory serves. He had been living in Carmel Valley, not far from Laguna Seca.
Ron Grable...When I met Mike Brockman in '73 he and Grable were good buddies. It's been some time since I've had contact with Mike but am chasing contact info on him. He'll probably know where to find Grable.
Don Breidenbach....haven't heard of him in years but I'm trying to find his brother "Emmet" so he should know. I'll pass it on if I find out.
Dave Oxton...I have an email address. If you can't find him pm or email me and I'll send it along. Not sure if it's current.
And that's the extent of what help I can offer at the moment.

John Briggs... "Leukemia if memory serves..."
Add to that the ones I didn't list because I knew, Gary Campbell (one of nature's gentlemen), John Cannon, Colin Trengove, Max Stewart etc.
Way too many aren't around any more, are they?
I don't use PMs, e.mail as per below. I have David Hobbs' e.mail now, it's great the e.mails I'm receiving, but I need more. Thanks to those who are racking their brains and helping out.

Emailed you. Teddy Pillette is on Facebook.
Mmm! Good point.
Ray, there's a Facebook group for F5000s - quite a few old drivers are on there (Pillette, Jurgen Barth, Derek Daly) - some very interesting names. Seriously, it's worth joining - put down 1901 as your year of birth if you want - or 2001 - they don't check.

I was forced to join up the other week, I worked out a way to put a false birthdate on and remember it.
Now, thanks to another member e.mailing me I add Derrick Williams to those no longer with us. Surprisingly, nobody picked up on that, I guess, he was killed in a fiery inversion in England in 1970... the circuit wasn't mentioned.

The book is about Australian and Tasman Cup F5000 racing. What happened outside that arena is only of peripheral interest. Not ignored, but not central to the theme.

I will try to get back to each of those who've e.mailed me, but I really would like to open up this whole subject again. We've got some fantastic contributions coming in for the book and the pictures are excellent unpublished (on the whole) images of a spectacular time in our racing history.
But we're well behind the 8-ball when it comes to making contact with the drivers.
Anyone who can help, please e.mail me - r@ybell.net

Thus far I've contacted about fifty people who raced these cars in New Zealand or Australia. And there's several more who won't be hard to get onto.
But I've just made up a list, and it's pretty long! The people I don't yet have any contact with (though some are among contacts that various members here have sent me) number over sixty! And there would be more, I'm sure, if I had some NZ Gold Star entry lists (David McKinney?).
Let's see... which ones are becoming an issue still:
Tim Slako
Don Breidenbach
Frank Radisich
Phil Moore
Des Lascelles
Mike Goth
Stan Keen
Dexter Dunlop
G Love (NZ)
Graham Baker
M Baker (NZ)
Bronwyn Taylor
Robbie Booth
Allan McCully
Reg Cook
Kevin Loy
Ken Shirvington
Ian Douglass
Lugsy Adams
Ian Adams
Alan Nitschke
Mel McEwin
Stephen Fraser
Peter Middleton
Teddy Pilette
Colin Hyams
Neil Doyle
John Surtees - surely he isn't too hard?
Pierre Phillips
Stew McMillan
Jim Lowe
Peter Edwards
Dave Powell
Alan Newton
Don O'Sullivan
Howie Sangster
Paul Bernasconi
Henri Pescarolo
Ed Polley
Gil Cameron
Peter Gethin
Greg Doidge
Kaye Griffiths
Some will look at this list and recall that they sent me a contact number or address for some of them... yes, thanks, but either e.mails have bounced or phone calls found them no longer there. Just a couple of them I haven't tried yet... but I have so far made contact with about fifty of their number.
Basically, if they're not on this list, I know I can find them myself, I know they are deceased or I have made contact. You know, sitting up at 3am making phone calls to England and that sort of stuff.
Once again, all assistance is gratefully accepted, either by posting here or by e.mail to r@ybell.net

And in phone book under that name.
Sue Johnson should be able to put you in contact with Howie Sangster and Don O'Sullivan as she got them both along to a WASCC reunion a while back. If you aren't on Speedwest forum, you should be - and Sue's on there too. I think both guys are on mobiles not landline these days, and not in phone book.

Thanks Allen, Terry, Lola5000 and David, also Gavin and Ron who've e.mailed me. I've had a reply now from Dennis Marwood and one from Rex Ramsay. The responses are very slow coming through, but when they come they are good.
David... can I also ask you, when the original (1968) Bay Park Formula A race was put together, who was behind the move? In other words, who was it introduced F5000 to this part of the world?

To expand on Allen's point, the race was put on by the Bay of Plenty Motor Racing Association, primarily Graham Pierce and Feo Stanton. As brash newcomers, they were not welcomed by the establishment, ie MANZ, who refused them Gold Star status for their first big meeting (December 1967). At the same time there was heated debate on what should replace the 2500 Tasman Formula, which was clearly coming to the end of its days. The BOPMRA were strong proponents of the 5-litre stock-block concept, and accordingly arranged the December 1968 Formula A race to showcase the cars for NZ spectators (and officialdom)
The crowd loved them and the rest, as they say, is history
