4. You could also add Southport (Australian GP 1954) - did they even call it the 'Gold Coast' then?

Wash your mouth, sir!

Lakeside is to the north of Brisbane by about 25kms, the Gold Coast is to the south.

The three circuits on the Gold Coast were:

1954-55 - Southport, 5.6 miles of public road using Ashmore Road, Southport-Burleigh Road and Benowa Road, approximately 5.6 miles around. The Australian Grand Prix was held on it in 1954.

1965-198? - Surfers Paradise International Motor Circuit, two miles built by Keith Williams opposite his Ski Gardens on the Nerang-Broadbeach Road

1990 - now - Gold Coast Indy circuit in the centre of Surfers Paradise.

All three of these circuits used to show on one double page of the Brisbane/Gold Coast street directory.

No, you can't add it... as in my post above, it is one of the three tracks...

And yes, it was called the 'Gold Coast' even then!

Ron, will you please take into account that I endeavoured to make my previous post about an hour and a half ago? Internet failed me.

That was young Bruce for question 16, Ron...

Posts under the name of 'brucemoxon' for some reason, about Australian rallying.

And there was a Vauxhall Lotus of some kind, wasn't there? Does that do for No 6?

In the UK the sporty version of the Victor was called the VX4/90 - no idea what it was called Down Under.

They were called VX 4/90 here as well, I think. There would have been a few private imports, whether any were used in competiton - lost in the mists of time.

The VX 4/90 was a regular sales model, assembled in Australia...

It ran, IIRC from about 1962 to 1965 perhaps.

Memories fading was Frank Hamlins Vauxhall a VX 4/90 ,also I can remember Cyril Hyde owned one which he used to tow his Anglia,he gave that the odd workout at Pukekohe Club Circuit and sprint meetings, also in the early mid sixties we built up a VX4/90 motor for a Hydroplane

9. Lotus, 9a Gold Leaf Team Lotus, 9b Pratt @ Whitney, 9c 8th, 9d for 9c Emerson Fittipaldi 9e Monza

9a - I recall the 56B was entered by Worldwide Racing in 1971 at Monza because of possible legal problems due to Jochen Rindt's accident the previous year. Anyway Lotus were sponsered by John Player in 1971 and ran their cars in the famous Black with Gold pinstiping - Gold Leaf Team Lotus finished at the end of 1970 - with the 56B Turbine Car being mostly Gold with Black nosebands.

Turbine Car also ran at non-Championship Hockenheim

McWenoopy - sounds Irish!

Scottish skinflint phase only lasted until the "Decision at 11 am announcement" re Hampton Downs NZFMR last Sunday. Brother and I decided to flag it away at that point. Next week will do.

Does your local library have "The official 50-race history of the Australian Grand Prix" on its shelves? Page 505 might be of interest.

Steve McQueen was apparently at Ascot Speedway with enthusiast James Garner; I wonder if he ever drove there as well.

Yes it was entered by "World Wide Racing" at Monza due to the Rindt crash in 1970, but Lotus were in Gold Leaf colours in the 1971 season at the other races. JPS came on board for 1972.
So, my answer to the entrant was incorrect.

Thanks, gavinevitt - I jumped the gun!! I wonder if the Monza colours of Gold & Black were a precursor to the JPS colours for 1972?? I think the 56B was in GLTL colours at Hockenheim
