Hi guys. I have a question about the 1979 Match Races and particularly the Donington race. Who rode the Heron Suzuki number 6 bike, persumably as a teammate to Barry Sheene?

Any leads would be welcome. Thanks.

The reason I ask is that superbikeplanet.com are running a great sreies of photos from the event and I am curious about that bike.

Mo.

Mo , I believe the 1979 series was run at the normal 3 tracks , Brands , Mallory and Oulton Park , Steve Parrish was listed as Sheene's team mate , and presumably rode his normal #6

Has to be Steve Parrish?

I know for sure Stavros was on the Texaco Heron Suzuki with his usual #6 at the North West 200 in 1979. The fateful day we sadly lost Tom Herron, both having been team mates at the event.

Not Pat Hennen's Suzuki #6.

Don't think Pat was involved with either Fiat Trucks or AGV.

Well , Mo , that is definitely Donington as you rightly say , but the Transatlantic was never run there until 1984 , IIRC , also the pic of ' Pat Hennen's Suzuki being warmed up , think he had his accident in 1978 !!!
And what's Greg Hansford doing there ?? , no , got to be pics from the AGV Nations Cup , September 1979

I knew this group would get to the real questions quickly. It never occured to me to ask, if this was the match races, why Hansford was there  but if not Hennen"s bike (career ended in '78 as you have pointed out, whose then? Any ideas?

Mo.

edit.

Crosby Suzuki

May have found a clue on Manfred's site. this is Croz in 1980 wearing #6 (although I understand numbers were changed more often than underwear back then).

edit again...

Stavros Suzuki #6

Or then again, as suggested earlier. Aint' the internet grand

Sorry SMonty, I have just noticed your earlier post. You can see from the times, I was writing while you were posting and I did not go back. I have to agree that you are right. Thanks.

Agreed Phil, it has to be the Parrish bike at the Nations Cup 1979. Five teams, seven riders per team, 10 x 10 lap races
Parrish had some good results from his four races P2 P6 P2 P5

Heron Suzuki...6 Parrish 7 Sheene

yep, agree with you guys - defo Parrish's bike and defo the 1979 AGV Nations Cup. One round was held at Imola and the other at Donington, I think in the September or October that year.

Further confirmation that it's 1979 is that Randy Mamola's in the Serge Zago leathers.

Is there a site somewhere listing the race results, or are you just as big an anorak as me...? :rotfl:

As far as I know, these results are correct (except Roberto Pietri took Carlo Perugini's place & Boet Van Dulmen's name was crossed out in error):

Re: the 1979 Transatlantic Match Races

Steve Parrish was indeed No.6 and Barry Sheene his customary No. 7. Tom Herron rode No. 11 in this series although he crashed out in the opening round at Brands.

Mo / Anyone

I've had a look through superbikeplanet.com looking for the feature/photographs referred to by Mo at the start of this thread but with no joy.

Can anyone give me a link or point me in the right direction?
