I don't think James thinks it's a laughing matter...
Can someone please provide a couple of real names? Who is James? Who is Burt? Clearly several people posting here do know who the protagonists are so there is no need to continue with the anonymity.
There have also been several very pointed inuendos (inuendoes?) which, again, those closer to the scene understand. Could someone please clarify by revealing the bits of the story that are already in the public domain?

He is somewhat known about the place and he gave his real name earlier in the thread.
'Burt', I suspect, is Mick's silly way of spelling 'but'. But I can't be sure of that and you can never be sure of anything Mick posts. There is innuendo in that.

Is it too logical to think that the warring parties in this long running dispute might one day pick up a phone and try to sort out who gets the prize. Perhaps over a schooner at the local or failing a resolution then a toss of a coin ought to arrive at a solution. After all, the subject of this dispute is certainly no Bugatti and by the descriptions previously posted, is probably unlikely to ever run again.

Crikey Dick ! Are you suggesting common sense should prevail ? Next you'll want the Ford and Holden fans at Bathurst to agree on which is the better car !

I have not put any proof of my friends claim in this post but some of the people that have posted have not disputed my claims. Why do you think that is ?
I can't wait to post these photos so everybody can eat their words.
Uh-huh. So, just to get this right, those who have not disputed will have to eat their words?

Pardon me for correcting your spelling........there is only one 'm' in 'ameters'.
and OBTW, I belatedly resemble that remark!
Oxford Dictionary
Ammeter
Noun: An instrument for measuring electric current in amperes
Origin: late 19th century: from ampere + meter

I would have thought so too, and I'm sure I've seen it spelled as such. But I didn't want to bother looking up anything as I have profound respect for Greg and his senior years.
Did we come to a correct conclusion on 'burt', by the way?

Yes, thanks for that, Mick...is there a charge for that ?
That explains why mine doesn't work !

No charge today, but I reserve the right to recover costs further down the track.
On a serious note, the first thing I am concerned about with older cloth wrapped wiring looms is the ammeter circuit. Lots of jippers (tech term for current) wandering around under the bonnet etc. Throw in ageing, cracked and chafing insulation, exposed ammeter terminals and bare wire or two and you have a recipe for bit or arcing and sparking which could end in tears.
Ammeters (not you Greg) should see an Eric Trician rather then try it themselves if they are not ohhhh Fay!

Just to get this thread back on Hudsons. I am sure too that it has an ammeter as well as cloth covered wiring.
No charge!

A picture for posting effectively should be at least 400 pixels wide. Most are twice that width.

A picture for posting here should be at least 400 pixels wide, most are approaching twice that width.
If it was taken with a camera, that should be easy to arrange using Irfanview (a free download), but uploading to Postimage.org for posting will also present an option for resizing.
