Thank you Ron - enjoyed it as usual and proud to have won, but I suspect things might have worked out differently if Gavin hadn't been on the phone, and Ray eating his dinner, at the crucial moment. Polly says 'Squawk!!'

:rotfl: HI TIM...Thank you for your comments..always a lot of fun to do,but takes more time to set up than i should spend.
Some questions get a bit sticky ....eg..when some drivers enter with different cars than what they start the race with..
and N.Z. magazines give different details to that of australian magazines etc...
..I believe when YOU or Ray Bell or David Mc Kinney..do a quiz ..i would be left scratching my head !!!!.Regards Ron..

P.S.....I have a GIEC (GIECO) dvd recorder...and have mislaid the instructions...I need the instructions to FINALISE DVD.s
..(so that it can be played on other dvd players.)..The retailer where i purchased it has closed.....Any help ANYBODY>..???

I was all set up to answer Questions 10/11, with my AGP 'Bible' at my side, when I checked back with the thread and found some fellow with a parrot had got there already. Saved me a lot of typing.

Presume the Warwick Farm race was actually called the "36th" Australian GP in the programme, some pedants might claim that 2 of the first 35 were called something else, so this should have been 34th. But the result has been declared, no further correspondence will be entered into, as they say, and a good time was had by all.

Was Peter Leversedge scraping rubber off the tyres. Was this done with the next-door neighbour's bread-knife, like in "World's Fastest Indian"?

Dennis Morgan 1960 "Home in Indiana" singer was apparently a 30's movie actor who could also sing. Never heard of him in either capacity. This tradition goes way back, is there a website on it , like the pace car details?

Just grab a 12 year old passing through the neighbourhood, they will use words that you can still understand

Will post some Timaru ENZED info soon. Ran into Allan Dick, he now lives in Oamaru in a 6 bedroom house so I suggested that we should hold and old Dunedin type meeting in it and he shuddered at the thought

:rotfl: HI MR Wenoopy...I was delayed...ran out of gigs !The 36 th aus. g.p. details..I got from a Motorman..N.Z. magazine..must be correct !!
Peter Leversedge may have used the tyre regrover that Wally Darrell Used to have to prepare his tyres??
Other cars on the list that i have raced.....a micro midget (billy philp size )we raced with warner and clyde Collins on the christchurch estuary mudflats..
way before go carts were invented.. A 1932 v8 sedan raced at christchurch car scrambles..dirt track..on the land before ruapuna and the speedway was built..
Another twincam escort that was shared with Barry Lee at bathurst (about 1974 ) ??
I went to the Indy 500 in 1977 1979 and 1981..when Gomer Pyle always sang My Home In Indiana..Which i believe has always been his thing..

HI Carl ..Looking for datails and photos from the Timaru Extravaganza...!!
Not a good idea to grab a 12 year old these days.. (to see to my dvd recorder ) !!
Looking forward to the Allan Dick housewarming party...Tell him that he (Allan )dos.nt even have to be there ...

I have been told that Avon Hyde was taken for a medical check up after the very hot day at the recent Ruapuna meeting.
He was not feeling well..and it was found that he was suffering from de hydration..now back on his feet..Look after yourself Avon , son.
We don t want to loose you..

You want the facts?

While two were, indeed, called something else at the time of their running, there was yet another one which was called the 'Australian Grand Prix' but isn't included in the usual lists.

I don't think any reasonable person begrudges the '100 Miles Road Race' at Phillip Island in 1928 the distinction of being in the list, while the 1936 race at Port Elliot (which is known as the 1937 AGP at Victor Harbor) had an entry to be envied by any preceding AGP and should have at least been sub-titled as such even though it was called the 'South Australian Centenary Grand Prix'.

So this (partial) pedant says it should probably be called the 37th Australian Grand Prix. And I'm sure the programme did tell the thousands in attendance that it was the 36th.

....Interesting that you can see Pikes Peak from your home....
Any interesting stories you can tell ??
....Do you sneak up at night to have a go ??
....Ever competed legally at da peak ??..
....A kiwi in a pick up used to compete there..(same driver who crashed in a kiwi movie )

Whoops.... just winged answers without spying over da classmates's shoulder. My Bad.

Interesting stories? Winter-camped there on an exposed ridge at 12,800 feet once .... once.... big wind midnight to dawn, barely survived. Cried.

Sneak up? Road is locked at night.... otherwise I'd have given 'er a go many times by now. Have snuck onto several tracks over da years.

Never raced there.... you referring to a Mr. Millen?

Yep, from memory only.... though still not a great performance.... maybe at least I was the top American! (probably not)

Mount Cook is awesome, much prettier and more commanding than Pikes Peak for sure. Did you make the last 49 feet? (can't bail when THAT close!)

Good Call on the water vs. beer quandary.... Agreed!

Thanks.
