I can't see that any of those cars would be hard to identify at those meetings...

They certainly look different enough in the AGP book photos and magazine pics of the time. Patto's especially, white with the pale blue nose and stripe, while Youl's car was either older or newer than either of the others.

Well, I have to admit, I haven't seen the particular photos...

Can you e.mail them to me and see how I go?

Ray,

Very LOL...

My post #149 was an attempt at humour, at my expense, coz I'm that kinda-guy. Completely lost on the uber-anals present. I don't think Gordy would be too happy if I sent his January spreads to anyone, even a career-TNFer like your-good-self.

Here's one for you though, I don't know the answer

It's our-very-own Bib Stillwell at Ardmore in 1961 - supposedly - according to the Natlib NZ caption.

What year is it, what is his mount?

Smile, no-one's life depends on the answer...

The date gives it away...

9th January, so it was 1960. Surprisingly there was a good contingent of Australians there, Stan Jones and Stillwell in Cooper T51s, Ted Gray in the Tornado (surely one of his last drives of that car?), Len Lukey in his T45 and Arnold Glass in his 250F. Not so surprising, though, when you consider there was no International Series here at the time and Warwick Farm and Sandown weren't yet created. Longford was happening and the tinny Hume Weir 'International' would be held two months later.

Bermar Sellars (sp?) filled third place behind Brabham (T51) and McLaren (T46) with 2.5 engines finished the whole 75 laps, Bib did 72 and Stan did 71 with their 2.2 engines. Arnold was sixth on 68 laps, two laps behind Johnny Mansell in a 250F and only just ahead of Jim Palmer in a 1,964cc Lotus 15. Lukey's 1.9 Cooper retired by half distance, Stirling Moss retired on lap 27 with a duff clutch and Ted Gray did fewest laps of all the starters when he completed just five.

Great photo. It's 1961with Bib in a leftover from the DB-period of Aston F1 GP cars.

As for the other matter with the March 23 Motor Sport. Stratmann Mallala/Sandown photos, $12.50 buys you a copy at selected Aussie newsagents.

Guys,

Bib raced a 250F in 1957 DNF, in 58 for eighth, and in 1959 where he was sixth.

In 1960 he did very well, third in a 2.2-litre Cooper T51 behind the 2.5s of Jack and Bruce. It isn't a Cooper surely?

I agree he raced the Aston in '61 Stevo but he's got a Maserati logo on his chest, persuasive but not definitive I know. Could it be in one of his Maser years, it's a front engined car. He looks so young too...

So I was led up the garden path by that 'date' on the pic?

The back-to-front '1961' and the fuel filler on the tail should have been more of a clue.
