Is that the Don Lee car?

If so, I know where the later bodywork is sitting, covered in dust! From memory, a pale-ish metalic blue. Is it the original Mercedes bodywork, altered and painted, or a new set of panels produced by Lee's team.

A fantastic picture whatever!!

According to the 1948 Clymer Yearbook, yes, the Don Lee Special driven by Chet Miller. Qualified on the 7th row with a speed of 127.249 which would have placed the car 5th if posted on pole day. Dropped out of the race on lap 108 with "oil trouble", after running fifth in the early stages of the race.

What a great photo.

Agreed. I can never get enough of these old pics, and when they're in color they're extra special.

Can't you just hear them pronouncing (in Texan), "We're in the awl bidness!"?

Those bricks look mighty slick. Slick as in slippery as opposed to Willy.

Not only were they slick but they were VERY bumpy!
Many drivers used to clamp down on a hankerchief to keep their teath from breaking!
