An empty 44, and that made them droop. When they were first released I saw a HB Torana try and fit in the boot of one. Didnt fit. The P38 was brand new. Ouch!

Q7 - Antiques Roadshow - Hi Lite Morrie Minor.

Never tried the oil drum in the P76 boot, but a 1960's memory is of a full beer-keg in the boot of a NZ Govt Public Service Garage Vauxhall Victor - the boot-catch wouldn't stay shut!

Q11 - If you count British Aurora Formula One Series then Desire Wilson and Divina Galica qualify also. There was a Belgian driver Germaine Garon in that series (3 races) in a Chevron-Hart - was he/she male or female? I thought of Cathy Muller, but she only ran in F3000 a few years later.

Don't change a word of it. It's a work of art. Warts and all.

As you say it was the Aurora Formula 1 Series, and I happily quoted it as non-champ F1 for Desire Wilson! Don't tell me about old age, I miscounted the places in Spanish GP and gave you Vittorio Brambilla instead of Lella Lombardi. She is the only woman driver to score points in World Championship, and then only a half-point because race was stopped before 60% distance.

Stu

HI Thanks for the kind comments.. And Congratulations..I hope your grey cells worked as hard as mine were !!
Tell us about Bristol...How far to go to Goodwood ?? Do you go every year..I think you said that you met Pattie
McLaren..?? Neat...Have you ever seen the Movies of Bruce and Denny racing in the Can Am Series ??
We used to borrow the film from the Hulme family to be shown at our OSCA Noggin and Natter Film Evenings..
They were always a big hit...I expect that dvd copies would be avaliable from the Bruce McLaren Organization.
If you or anyone on the forum want.s to buy a copy..
Does Bristol have anything to do with the manufacture of the Bristol Transport Aircraft ?? (way back when )
I remember when one crashed at Christchurch..a wing fell off and crashed on the Russley Golf Corse.
All on board were killed.. I read the report on computer today.. It was a long time ago.. (Ron )

Bristol is about 90 miles from Goodwood, and I go every year to the Festival of Speed, and to the Revival every three or four years or so. I’ve not met Pattie McLaren, though I’d love to. I think I’ve seen most of the CanAm films as one of my friends is a CanAm nut and brings them along to our motor club nights.

The Bristol Freighter was indeed built in Bristol by the old Bristol Aeroplane Company. This company’s engine division later became Bristol Siddeley Engines and then part of Rolls-Royce, and I worked there for many years.

The company motor club was started during World War 2 by many well-known car people who worked at Bristols during the war. They were instrumental in getting 500 cc (later Formula 3) racing going, and most of them then went off to found the Half Litre Club, which evolved into the BRSCC. The Bristol Aeroplane Company Motor Club was revived after a short break, changing its name about ten years ago to Bristol Pegasus Motor Club, and we’re still going strong. I’m the current secretary – can’t find anyone fool enough to take the job off my hands.

If you’re ever thinking of visiting the UK, Ron, make sure to take in one or other of the Goodwood events – they’re both excellent.
