Hello,
I,m new here in this forum, and after some days of just reading all these interesting threads, I thought it is time to ask something.

I am building a diorama on Le Mans 1970 with a friend.
Can anybody help me finding some pictures of the paddock and the back of the main grand stand ?

Hello Aud, welcome to the forum. Someone, somewhere will have something useful to you but, in the meantime, there's a nice Klementaski shot of the 1970 scrutineering bay here:

You could get yourself a DVD of the Steve McQueen film Le Mans and study that, I think that was made in 1970. It might be difficult to sort the actual event footage from what was staged afterwards, but the buildings should look the same.

Great question. I have several 1:43 transporters and was thinking of doing something similar.

To inspire you, check out the work of the guys from Chrono 43 who displayed a 1970 Le Mans paddock diorama at Retromobile this year :

Here's a few pictures from 1969 to 1973 I've collected for my project from various sources.

1973 Le Mans Test Day - gives a good overal feel and layout of the steps to the grandstand :

The Gulf team in 1971 in front of the Grandstand :

and the sister Martini team :

another picture from 1971 that also shows some of the Grandstand details in the background :

Here's a few more from the same period.

John Woolfe's Porsche in 1969 which again shows some of the Grandstand detail :

A later shot from 1975 which shows the arrangement of the entrance road to the track :

Finally, here's an aerial view of the paddock in 1976 to give you a feel of the overall layout :

There is no substitute for period shots (and those above are wonderful) but if you would like a little inspiration, there are several nicely rendered dioramas at the Musee des 24 Heures just behind the start/finish straight at Le Mans. This is a rather poor photo I took of the 1970s edition. I do wonder whether there should be a Matra MS670B heading the field, rather than a 312PB, but do they call that artistic licence? Best of luck with your project.

Thank you, it's very interesting.
Of course this diorama is nice but it's much better to see some real pictures...
