I have a programme for the Daily Express Trophy Meeting at Silverstone on may 3rd. Listed in the up to 1500cc race are S.G Young in a Parson 1484cc and Chris Summers in an Arden 1097cc. What were these cars and are there any pictures of them?..........Martin

I believe the Parson had a Maserati engine.

As Duncan says, the Parson would have been the Parson-Maserati, or just possibly the earlier Parson-MG. Here's a photo of the Parson-Maserati:

and here's an IMCDB thread about the Parson-MG, which appears to have been used in an episode of Danger Man:

http://imcdb.org/veh...on-MG-1955.html

which includes this post from the son of the constructor:

Hello, I can certainly confirm/correct some of the information above, as it was my father Mr Stuart Young who designed and raced this car in 1955-56. He and his father owned Weldangrind and the name ParSon did indeed come from the fact it was a father son company and not due to the construction location. The car is still being exhibited at shows etc and indeed my father got to drive it again just a few years ago at Silverstone. My father went on to design and race another car the Parson Maserati, and to the best of my knowledge was a more successful racing car. Any further info wanted please let me know.

I believe the Arden was the Arden-Climax, built by Jim Whitehouse of Arden Engineering/Equipe Arden fame. According to Robert Barker in this earlier thread on Chris Summers, it was Austin 7-based.

I believe we have seen the Parsons MG at the Revival at various times.

S G Young was entered for the 'up-to 1500cc' sports car race supporting the 1958 Daily Express Trophy Race driiving number 1 Parson entrant Weldangrind Ltd. 1484cc. I do not have the results.

In the support race at the Grand Prix that year the same car and driver were entered (no 15) while in the up-to 1100cc class Chris Summers was driving in a 1098cc Arden entered by Arden Racing & Sports Cars Ltd.

Currently the Parson MG is regularly seen in the hands of it's new owner David Clewley, there are several pictures of the car taken at various historic/classic meetings on my web site www.picasaweb.google,co.uk/rbmapics

Revival 2009, MGCC Silverstone and Silverstone Classic.

David also owns and races the ex-Stirling Moss Cooper Alta.

Hope this helps.
