The Top Gear test track time trial seems to have died.

Anyone want to do one for the Nurburgring ?

I was trying to think of a good car to do it with. I suggest the Toyota 88C. It's a car which a lot of people might already have as you win it once you complete "Like the Wind". I also think that it's a nice stable car which is suited to the circuit.

I think maybe a different car? Honda NSX type-R? Toyota is good, but I think a road car would be better suited, to get that track day feel...

6:21:208 with a standard Toyota 88C.

We can't have a democracy in this threads, the thread starter is the ruler and decide the car and track otherwise it will just end up with a mess of different ideas and cars and no one will know witch one to use and no one will post times.
So Ali_G just tell use tires and upgrades we can use and lets get this up and running

All upgrades allowable (which is just Turbo tune 3 and rigidity improvements I think). Any tyres allowable.

I'll keep updating the opening post for best times and leaderboard.

After a quick pit-stop for new tires and a fresh turbo I sat a time of 6:06.349.

I run with it on. Can try and see what happens when I turn it off (I suspect a 7:32.123...;))

EDIT: Wow, that was more like flipper then racing Sorry, I can't run without the driver aids.
Finally a sub 6 minute time, 5:58.804, getting closer

There's still more time to find, and if I turn skid recovery force on I'm sure I can find even more time as it is an advantage.

Now is this in practice mode or are you guys opening up a lounge and setting a time there? My time was set in practice mode.

I'd say I could shave at least 10 seconds off my time. Dunno where I'd find the rest.

On the subject of SRF (skid recovery force) I enabled it without doing anything to the car and did a lap 10 seconds faster. It would have been more but 2 significant errors cost me at least 5 sec. You shouldn't be able to lay the power down so easliy on a car with 1000hp and I can apply much more power and pin it much earlier with SRF enabled, which is where most of it's advantage lies.

A good idea might be those with controllers can use SRF for obvious reasons and anyone with a wheel should run with it disabled. That could also help with the disadvantge the controller has over the wheel.

Maybe we could also put a 'W' and 'C' next to everyone's name (Peeko...W, Viktor...C). I use a wheel.

We should really think about having a weekly Atlas event online, but we'll leave that for another thread.

Nürburgring is very awesome and amusing with normal or up to touring cars. Not any fun with LM or FormulaGT cars.

We could use the Elise 111 Race Modified. It's cheap to purchase and upgrade, available to everyone, and is a hoot to drive around the Ring.

Peeko, your times look too good, like your using a different car, Toyota GT1 or something alike. The Toyota 88c is the old F1 car, boosted i got about 800hp, nowhere near the power your getting. First clean lap i did a 6:13.xxx with plenty of room to improve, so a sub 6min lap is possible, closer to the high 5:5x.xxx laps posted above. My settings are all assists off, ABS on 1.

For giggles, i tried using the x2010 and my first completed lap was 4:05.xxx. One crazy fast, tunnel vision inducing car to drive!

All performed in practice/free run mode in A Spec.

Oops, is it? That explains everything and paints me with a foolish brush, lol.
I suppose the reason for this is my friends and I just call it the "Minolta".

In any case, i tried it with the Toyota 7 and did an unofficial 5.57.xxx
But i guess that's void because that wasn't the initial challenge...

Did a 5.57 last night, can definitely shave 10 seconds off that at least. No TC, ABS on 1, no other aids. I was also pretty knackered so don't feel like it was my best lap.

I still don't really like this car, it feels way too fast for the 'Ring (for my talents at least) and my lap is only 1.20 faster than my time in a Mazda Kusabi concept (fully tuned). That was a great lap though so I don't know how to judge it.

I had difficulties to maintain one full lap without disqualifying lap (red) but got one decent with 5:42.929

Skid Recovery on, TC 1, ABS 1, other driving aids off, wheel (Loghitech Driving Force Pro) setup simulation. Soft slicks.

Comment: faster time for me is possible, but it needs tweaking car and wheel setups. Car control feels very loose on bumpy track and though I love Nürburgring I don't like it with fast cars.

I agree, the 'Ring is best enjoyed in a supple sports car, the Toyota is fast yes and really sticks to the road when it's smooth, but I didn't get confident in the lap, partly due to my lack of experience with it, but also it was very chattery in the bumpy sections, and I didn't feel planted to the track...

I'll have another go when I finish work tonight.... see how I do. Might soften the car up a bit.

Down to a 5.42.5 now, softened the car up (quite hamfistedly, not really that considered about it) and gained a lot more confidence in the car. Still driving somewhat conservatively in the last section after the Karussel though.
