Being repeated again over the next week or so on Motors TV (channel 413 in the UK):

Monday 10.05pm.
Tuesday 3.45pm,

We don't seem to have the Motors channel any more, and the channels don't go as high as 400+.
Must be one of the subscription jobs I suppose.

It is a brilliantly well produced piece by Gary. I think you need either Sky or cable to be able to see it. Some really lovely paddock footage by the late great multiple BP film award winner Freddie Barratt in the middle 1960s.It is a must see.

I always thought Motors was free to air. Are you in the UK, Allan?

I will try and see this Gary, not really sure which channels I have with the freeview built in to my new Sony, but I will scroll through the lot! ;)

It is free to air. But on Freesat, not Freeview. No dish? No Motors. :p

Unfortunately it isn't on the basic TV (XL) Cable package either.

The basic "freeview" system has so many channels that there isn't enough worthwhile to go round and I have no doubt that any "freesat" system will merely add channels with the same, often outdated repeats of rubbish like "Top Gear", spread even thinner and at a great set-up expense. For the next couple of years the licence alone cost me as much as I'm prepared to pay for TV, so no chance of any subscription wallahs getting any money from me.
I don't remember "Motors" being of much interest when I could get it - staple seemed to be WRC rally crash compilations, and dull people having second-hand cars bought for them/sold to them.

PS sorry about the rant.

PPS Yes, British North Hertfordshire is still in the UK (we were working on secession once, but nothing came of it!).

I believe you're thinking of "Men and Motors", Allan. Different animal - and dead. Motors TV started in France about 10 years ago. It's a bit "curate's egg" but there's some good stuff: they even showed a live clubbie from Castle Combe earlier this year!

Quite possibly. With these non-specific names the channels can easily get mis-remembered. Probably been bought by Clarkson and renamed "Arfur" by now.
As one who has spent a lot of time at club race meetings as spectator (originally), marshal and official , I can't imagine they have much TV value. But then the true Club race meeting as we knew it is more or less defunct now that there is a race series for more or less anything and every race has to count towards one.
