Can anybody ID this race track. The film was taken around 1949 / 1950.

Possibly Davidstow in Cornwall but that's just a guess

Davidstow was first used in 1952, so too late if the dates quoted are accurate?Possibly Davidstow in Cornwall but that's just a guess

My initial guess is Silverstone 1949, but would welcome any other suggestions.

Study of complete (47 sec) video suggests a rural location rather than a city airport. Shots of well-dressed local worthies with wheat field in background might confirm Silverstone, or any other disused wartime airfield for that matter. Dress/hair styles of ladies might mean something to a dedicated follower of fashion.

I forwarded the clip to Peter Tutthill and he does not think that it is Davidstow. And before anyone else suggests it, no it is not Fersfield.

It could be Gamston. A meeting was held there on 7th Aug 1950 ( from Silhouet ) which used a long wide runway. A different layout was used in 51/52. Also the August date would tie in with the very dry grass and the state of the crop. I had a sniff around on Google maps and the terrain looks very similar. Cheers Ian
