Hi

I've come in possession of a small archive of photos and have identified most but I'm stuck on a few, any help would be greatly valued.

Many thanks

The Sid Taylor Lola I know, but what race ? , there are BOAC flashes on the car that may indicate Brands Hatch World Sports car championship but I can't find the car number on any entry list, the Lola has the Hamlyn Books logo if that helps with a year

Photos 2 and 7 I think were taken at Crystal Palace.

Picture 3 is a Marcos - is it Jem Marsh's 3 PLY? (such an appropriate plate for a wooden car)

Yes, #2 is Crystal Palace. The F.1 race on June 11th 1962.

Gunther Seifert's Lotus Climax #5 is being passed by, I think, Brian Hart's Lotus Ford #9, with Trevor Taylor, works Lotus Climax V.8, #3, about to pass both.

Hi re your Sid Taylor picture of the Lola T70, if it was The BOAC 1000 k race at Brands Hatch it was in 1969 & the drivers were Peter Revson & Jackie Oliver
I worked for Sid Taylor as 2nd Mechanic for the whole of the 19 & we had quite a variety of Drivers during that year
Hope that has helped you Ragards Phil Bradford

Picture 5
It is a works Alfa Romeo GTAm, 6 Hours of Silverstone 1970.
According to Frank de Jong's page, four GTAm's were entered in that race: Toine Hezemans finished 3rd overall driving the #33, Nanni Galli 8th in the #35. The car #38 in the picture could be the one of Gianluigi Picchi-Spartaco Dini.
Possibly the latter is at the wheel, because Picchi usually had a red-and-blue helmet (similar to Emerson Fittipaldi's) and the driver in the photo is wearing a white (or clear) helmet, like Dini.
Another GTAm was entered by the Belgian team "Alfa Romeo Benelux" for Jean-Claude Franck-Christine Beckers. But I'm not sure that this is the car in the picture, because of the Italian plate number MI L12787.

Hi Phil, the records show Sten Axelsson partnering Peter Revson at Brands that year and the Lola was numbered #4. I have no record of Jackie Oliver ever driving for Sid. My guess is that it's Sid himself at a club event as I can find no record of the car running as #39 in the archives.

I'll give you a call Phil as I need to visit you soon!

Thanks for all the input so far, that's was my problem with the Lola photo no numbers matched the car at a Brands BOAC event , did the car ever run with BOAC logos in any other events ?

Does the Hamlyn Books sponsorship but the car in a certain period year wise ?

I can confirm from the programme that the Lola in picture #4 is Brian Redman in the Lola numbered #39 at the 1969 Tourist Trophy at Oulton Park.
(...and from the weather!)

Picture 6 would be Jackie Stewart winning at Crystal Palace in the 1964 Jaguar DC meeting in the race for Jaguar cars. He won two other races that day - off the top of my head - in an Elan and in the John Coombes lightweight E-type.

But wasn't it one of the "Ugly Ducklings" rather than the Fastback?

The XK120 that JYS (picture 6) was driving belonged to Eric Brown who was chairman of the Jaguar DC at the time. It was a 25 lap race with Rob Beck finishing 2nd in another XK120.

Yep, the 1964 J.O.C meeting at the Palace. I was there. Jackie won 3 races back-to-back.

Picture No.1 is interesting, it looks as if it has Lotus Wobbly Wheels, could it be a rebodied 15 or 17?

Yes it was and it was bought by Barry Filer for Jackie to race. The actual car is owned by Jem Marsh today.

Here is a shot of Jackie at Charterhall chasing Gordon Durham's Porsche Carrera

Pic 1 looks like an Attila 1963, usually with a Climax engine, but the bulge on the hood suggests a bigger engine, maybe a V8.

I knew that nose reminded me of something - Is that Roy Pierpoint?

Almost definitely an Attila. I have a picture of Roy Pierpoint at Mallory in 1963 and although taken from a different angle it looks to be the same car.

The exhaust look early BRM V8, but certainly not a works Lotus BRM V8 in 62. Lotus 25 were run later with 1.5 lt BRM V8s by Parnell and a 2 lt V8 in a Team Lotus 33 for G Hill in early 67.

I can see what Roger means. The exhausts appear to be B.R.M-type from early 1962.

I was there but I can't say I remember the works Lotus using B.R.M, however, Doug's 'Theme Lotus' confirms it to be a B.R.M engine.
