This year's "Legends" is set for the last weekend of March. Parnelli Jones is the honoree.

Legends of Riverside, 2011 edition:

http://www.legendsofriverside.com/

Also, from Doug Magnon: "...Phil Remington is receiving the Peter Bryant award and we are inaugurating a new Les Richter award..."

And two side-by-side racing simulators:

Meanwhile, on the same weekend, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Auto Club 400 takes place at the Auto Club Speedway in nearby Fontana. Here is the link for that:

Ford Motor Company helped the Legends of Riverside by having the Dan and Harry Lipetz owned Mustang brought to the event from their home in Vancouver, Canada

This years Legends of Riverside lll was a great success, thanks to Doug and Ray Magnon and their crew. Everyone enjoyed seeing the Legends and the cars that Parnelli had driven and the food was great also.

Bobby Allison brought his lovely wife Judy Allison to Legends of Riverside

Everyone at the event was very happy to get to meet them.
There is a great book on Bobby and Judy Allison's life called Miracle Bobby Allison and the Alabama Gang, it was written by Peter Golenbock and is an amazing story of a families Joys and Sorrows, a must read.

Jerry, it was great to see you there... I spent most of my time with Lois Bryant and Frank Lance, what great stories he had, and what great time we all had.
I will post pictures later today and a little movie I took of the inductees.

Page Jones and his son Jimmy Jones
On Friday Page Jones showed a movie that he was the main character in. It showed his fight with TBI, or Traumatic Brain Injury. The movie is called Godspeed.

Judy Jones and Parnelli Jones and Pages daughter JoJo and Jim Dilamarter and his lovely wife.
Page's story is an amazing one. His mother Judy Jones and father Parnelli Jones never gave up on Page's battle to be able to walk and speak, something we take for granted. Page fought a magnificent battle with his injured body. It was a pleasure to see Page walk up on the stage and address the crowd.

T-54: Always glad to see you also.

As promised, a few pictures of "Legends III"...

Besides the men and women (LOTS of women racers this year), one of the stars was PJ's Mustang brought thanks to Ford Motor Co:

Posted Image

Looks pretty lonely in there...

Posted Image

The Magnons had rounded a whole line of really nice Indy cars, including my own baby seen here in its resplendent Olsonite robe:

Posted Image

Parnelli Jones enjoying the sight of one of Sam Hanks former rides, a 6-cylinder "Big Car" with a modified GM engine:

Posted Image

Ed Justice Jr. did a terrific job interviewing PJ. Good questions out of the usual lame stuff, it was truly fascinating. Ed is becoming rapidly one of the best of the best. I am hard to impress and I was.

Posted Image

Part of the large group of celebrities during their presentation to the public:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Page Jones gave an emotional speech about the new documentary about his horrendous crash and its later consequences, "Godspeed", that needs some cash to complete and distribute. Please give generously.

Posted Image

Did you know that Hershel McGriff was the winning-est racer at Riverside raceway? Here is Hershel, always young, receiving an award. Hershel won the stock class in the Panamerican race in an Olds in... 1950 for God sake!

Posted Image

Lois ("Lane") Bryant was excellent company and is seen here rewarding "Rem" with the perpetual Peter Bryant trophy for excellence. I cannot thing of anyone more deserving of it than Phil. Doug Magnon is helping out, and the Magnons were simply terrific and very generous of their time and their dime.

Posted Image

Here is "Shel" surrounded by his favorite ladies, Paula Murphy, Mary Davis and Ginny Sims.

Posted Image

I had, as last year, a truly great time with Frank Lance, one of my personal heroes, seen here with Yours Truly with the Mecom-Lola he wrenched with Geo Bignotti in the '66 Indy 500. This is when Roger Ward parked it in the middle of the race and walked away for good, obviously impressed by the huge accident at the beginning of the race.

Posted Image

A few pics of the cars that were there. This is one of four Lotus 56s, not counting the replicas built in the day by Andy and Parnelli!

Posted Image

The 1973 Vel's Parnelli was designed by Maurice Philippe and while not entirely successful, was quite a good car. The Eagles were tough to beat between 1972 and 1975...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Doug Magnon's 1966 Eagle was the first ever built. It is now back as a runner.

Posted Image

The Lola that Mark Donohue drove in 1971:

Posted Image

Roger Ward's 1966 Lola-Offy (with Hilborn supercharger and 8 exhaust ports) in flanked by the 1969 Eagle Santa Ana driven by Hulme at Indy and Donohue's Lola.

Pretty nice, yes?

:smoking:

Simply not enough time in 3 days to talk to all my friends... :(

T-54: That Mustang you took the great pictures of belongs to Dan and Harry Lipetz of Vancouver, Canada. Ford Motor Company helped the event by having the car brought to the event.

Ike Smith went to Vancouver and picked it up on the Tuesday of the event and drove straight through so the fans could see the car Parnelli won the 1970 TransAm Championship in. And thanks to the Lipetz family for loaning the car to the Riverside Museum.

Hi Jerry,
Indeed, I should have been more precise in saying that Ford paid for (some?) expenses in getting the car from the Lipetz to the event. :)
I enjoyed meeting Carmen, you are a lucky man to be married to such a lovely lady who visibly enjoyed the company, the history and the cars. I had to threaten mine to get her to accept to go with me to Goodwood this summer, well, the threat was that of getting her a new wardrobe. It worked.

T-54: I told Carmen that other wives were at the event and that she would enjoy it. I am waiting for more pictures of this event. She admitted that it was a really nice event after we got home.

Jerry,
That was a good trick I must try! :smoking:
In the meantime, we all had such a great time, I hope that the Magnons can afford to keep it going in these difficult times.
The cost of the event is so cheap considering that they feed the audience from breakfast-on for 3 days and what one gets out of it in intense enjoyment, they must have a pretty large loss when it is all over...
Let's cross our fingers that the economy picks up some, we all need it.
