The first picture looks like Reims in 1969, the race that Francois won, at the head of a slipstreaming pack. His race number was 26 and the BP shields look right for Reims. I don't think he raced at Hockenheim that year did he?
The second photo looks more Rouen than Pau to me. Stefan's website confirms John Coombs March # 4 at both, but the setting for the photo looks rather like the left hander that precedes Nouveau Monde.

He did, according to the F2 Register. He was 9th, with the same 26 number. Beltoise won the race with a Matra MS7-Cosworth. ¿The date? April -13-1969. Thank you for the reply.

Quite right Dhango, sorry. I was looking at the later, minor race. I hadn't spotted the April Hockenheim meeting. Here are a few more thoughts....not concrete facts! The positioning of the '26' in your photo looks identical to that in shots of the Reims finish. At Hockenheim in April, would the Tecno have been running a rear wing? I assume that the tall wings, like Rindt's at Thruxton, would have been banned in late May, or certainly well before the Reims race. Also, I think that I have seen photos of the Hockenheim race being wet, as in 1968, but I might be wrong. Finally, the broken road markings in the photo suggest a public road like Reims, rather than Hockenheim.

The March in the second picture is actually owned by a TNF member - and not a lot of people know that!

I think you're right with the Reims broken marks, I didn't spot them either. But ¿Hockenheim with wings? I've seen pictures of races in thet track (Reutemann's first F2 race one year later) and no one was using wings. You know, the "slip-streaming" thing and all that.¿why would you use wings for? Ok, I may be wrong, I'm no specialist but I agree with you, it is Reims, 1969. Nice topic with interesting ramifications, ¿don't you think?

I am the aforementioned slacker......
It was actually Mike Jones - Who I bought the car from a few years ago. Chris Townsend's very comprehensive dossier reports that Mike has since passed away.
Under the later model bodywork (Thankfully Mike had kept all the original bodywork with it :) ) the tub was (and will remain) all original, still sporting the hand sign witten dash labels and a few battle scars from it's Atlantic history in Ireland, but overall in pretty good condition.
Work commitments have slowed progress somewhat, but the restoration is continuing with a view to have it on the track before the end of the year. I have a nice injected BDE ready to slot in, so it will be correct to the spec run in '72.

If anyone is interested, I can post some photos of the car as it progresses on this thread.

Todd
