Can anyone shed any light on what this car is or was I assume it is a built up special on another chassis?
photo was from Queensland Australia and will be from the 1950's

Whatever it is hats off to the tin basher if it's a special.

Looks a little bit like a Swallow Doretti, although there is no 'bulge' in the bonnet. On second thoughts, there are lots of differences.

It does have a certain elegance of line, and the proportions are good. My first test is always "Do the wheels fit the wheel arches?", it certainly passes that one.

Any prize for the first TNFer to identify the chassis from the diamond shaped plate?

Dick Willis asked this question ages ago...

And no, I don't recall what the answer was!

As I said, Dick Willis had the pic some time ago...

I'm not sure whether it was on the forum or in the HRR Newsletter.

Knew that I had seen it before, first posting can be found on the "Personal photos of Australian motor racing '50s to '70s" - P16-17 but there was no conclusion on the origin of the car.

Yes I posted to that thread but no success and it got lost in all the other good stuff
so decided on starting separate thread.
I hoped someone would recognize somthing and the diamond on the chassis is interesting can anyone offer any further?

I remember that the diamond was a method of repairing cracked chassie rails, first the crack itself was dresseed then rewelded, then a diamond plate was welded over the cracked area.

The reaason for the diamond shape was to allow the repair to cover a larger area & also to avoid stress raisers.

The wheels look pre war to me as they have rolled edge rims and the hub spinners are very similar to those on my Lagonda Rapier i.e. the "ears" are symmetrical.
However the spoking pattern isn't Rapier as all the spokes appear to be laced to the outside edge of the rim which is MG, SS and Aston Martin pattern.
