I'm not in favour of erasing history, no matter how vile the person. Indeed it's usually better to show it.

Locked, perhaps - with a note added that anyone who wishes to add or correct anything of relevance to the thread can contact a mod who will do it for them. But not removed. ~

I agree with this approach

Shame on any of you who now have anything to say in support of this vile person; I repeat my request for this thread to be deleted.

I don't see anyone saying anything in support of him.

And surely if you wanted the thread deleted it would have been better either to leave it slumbering on page 14 to slip into obscurity and/or to have dropped a PM to Twinny? You were, after all, the one who dredged it up ...

Indeed and just as history doesn't show up well with Savile, it won't either with Hall. Just as I am not in favour of wiping out old episodes of TOTP (although you can wipe Saviles contributions for all I care but not the music) I'm not in favour of deleting this thread.

On a lighter note, you can, for me, wipe out the "music" too.

Just leave it as it is; he was a good guy and now he isn't . Both true- let's not reinvent history. Plenty of crooks in motor sport and if we start making moral judgments that it's OK to talk about Reg James , Vic Lee or Jerry Mahony but not about somebody else it gets us into a very stormy sea indeed.

Since I'd never heard of him before this week's events I cannot see any merit in advertising him now.
There seems to be/have been an assumption that anyone who ever appeared on television is/was well-known to all, regardless of their role - reading the above I can see why I'd never heard of him, as the programs he was involved with were of no interest to me. I cannot be unique in that respect, can I?

Some where in these pages I recall a thread which referred to another well known driver from the 50s who was forced to move abroad because of his interest in little girls , that is not deleted. I am also aware of another figure who featured in Sport for Youth (I am not saying which sport) whose sole reason for participating was access. I KNOW but can't prove it if anybody wonders why I do not denounce him. In the case of Stuart Hall I even suspect that I know one of his "victims", in her case she was an absolute little minx but that is no excuse.
Even so, everybody here thought he was a good bloke, if this had not been made public he still would be "nor all thy piety and nor wit shall lure it back to cancel half a line,Nor all thy tears wash out a word of it"

This is presumably the man who died of aids related problems in Thailand in 1993 who was one of those who was involved in the Ann Summers sex shops during their early days according to online sources.

You are putting down words that I did not write or even impute. What I said was that she was "an absolute little minx". As I knew the family I was aware that she had what the police describe as "previous"

He did not steal a car; he did not rob a bank (although he was a convicted serial shop-lifter at Safeway's Wilmslow store, who lied repeatedly in court, when charged).

Let's not rewrite history Comrade Pete. Hall was cleared of the shoplifting charge in Wilmslow, one of several high profile wealthy figures who could afford a top barrister to get them off. One is reminded of the Richard and Judy Tesco trolley dash in East Didsbury. Does anyone have any pictures of Stuart Hall actually racing, or have they all been airbrushed out? JohnP :D

I can remember seeing a programme of Stuart Hall lapping a 2CV's around Castle Combe against another celebrity, the forever injured decathlete Dean Macey. Which ever one lapped slowest their car got crushed. Seemed a right waste of a perfectly good car to me. Hall lost.

He now admits that he violated a nine year-old girl (plus many others, the numbers are not yet finalised). Three weeks ago he was still saying that this was all fantasy.

I too would like to see it locked and not deleted, if only to prevent further comment on an odious man and subject.
