The people in Vodafone PR are original... and brave, because they could lose clients

As far as advertising goes, that's pretty conservative. Better to acknowledge that the average Spanish F1 fan isn't so keen on McHamilton and make a joke out of it than ignore it completely IMHO. It's a clever advert, I like it.

This is just a follow-on on the advertising campaign that they had last year ("the better the bad guy, the better the film"). Obviously they were happy with the results.

As a creative in the advertising industry, this falls into the "I wish I'd thought of that" category.

They've done another one on this theme haven't they, a year or so ago? Something about sharks was it?? Much better ISTR.

Nice ad but not quite so so sure this will go down well amongst it's target audience. The ad would have served it's purpose better I think had Hamilton presented himself with the same kind of natural ease and modesty as Button did. There's a tad too much smirking from Hamilton's side which undermines the message of the ad.

I enjoyed that, back in the day i think he cared too much, now i don't think he really cares about the spanish people's dislike for him which is a good thing

He drives for McLaren.

Last year's was far better, now it's getting a bit repetitive.

I agree. It's a decent ad...but the story behind it is a little tired.

Pretty shitty ad. Seems to have cost about 10 quid to film and the whole "all of spain hates me"-angle is pretty sad.

It seemed a bit "weak", nothing unique or clever and lacking bite.

The latest Mercedes ad is a first class lesson in how to surprise and still get a message across.

It is pretty sad, but pretty sad that it's true.

Last year's ad (as posted by Showtime) was much better though. I don't think Button is much of a villain for the audience, and Hamilton simply isn't hamming up his villain role enough- he's not taking their ire seriously! ;)

It says (roughly I guess, please correct me native Spanish guys)

"Admit it, the better the bad, the better the movie."

Quite classy.

Sorry, I don't get it. What's so clever and funny about it  The very presence of Button completely ruins what I think it's all about.

So they are the baddies, Alonso is the goodie... just imagine their faces when they discover that in this picture, again, the pianist wins at the end.

They should just zoom in a still frame before the Lewis surprise move because, Lewis was actually moving a bit before the surprise move.

In my view it talks down to the Spanish people as being immature and irrational people. Why should they hate still Hamilton or Mclaren? I am pretty sure every country has fans of every team regardless of past history. I am Brazilian and was quite happy that Hamilton won in 2008 don't hold any grudges agaisnt him or anything. He was the most deserving one that year so props to him. Nor do I hold any grudges towards Schumacher and Ferrari for all the years with Barrichello even though I kept cheering for Rubens to break trough one of those years. But I understand that Schumacher was just better at the time and can't blame Ferrari policy for favoring the better driver in the end. Although I prefer more neutral team policies, I understand.

I am pretty sure there are plenty of fans of Ferrari in the UK even though they have race against English teams for a long time. These generalizations based solely on nationality that one should not support are silly. So if you are Spanish now you are supposed to dislike Mclaren for a long time and Hamilton and his dad too, like we saw today? I am sure it is not all the spanish people who is this narrow minded.

I agree. My eyes fail to see any value in the ad. Cheesy tune in the back drop too. I don't think it will tame the opinions of the Spanish public. Spanish fans hate Hamilton's guts and will continue to do so after watching that ad. Unfittingly, Lewis will be rubbing shoulders with Alonso on the grid tomorrow, so watch that space.

Hakkinen is the best F1 advert actor :)

Would have worked better with Seb perhaps showing them the single finger.

i like that commercial alot but people who are complaining about lack of originality wouldn't because it's pretty much the same theme as when Mclaren did it with Lewis and Alonso, you know trying to out do each other.

I have to ask, why are Mercedes advertising Red Bull for them, when they are clear rivals in F1 ? It makes bugger all sense to me.

Energy drink and a car are pretty different things. Cant imagine somebody buying a truckload of Red Bull instead of a Mercedes because RBR is winning in f1.

I am Spanish. Things have changed here within the last three years since Lewis was nÂș 1 public enemy  . Many people (like me) DO RESPECT Lewis, and consider him as one of the best drivers ever. This ad has been well received here, and as an example, Lewis, Jenson and Pedro were last thursday on a famous live TV show (Buenafuente) and were cheered and clapped by the live audience. Most of my coworkers are of the same opinion.
I think Vodafone has made the grade.

Since the Lewis thread is still closed for cleaning up
this seems to be the most appropriate thread for some lighthearted insights at Lewis syncronisation work for the cars movie
Here he tries it at espanol:
