Going to the Canada GP, and will be driving from NY. Where would we park our car for the day to get on the Metro? Anyone have experience on this? The circuit gilles villeneuve is selling 3 day passes for for the Metro for $16 each. Is it wise to get the passes now or wait to purchase the fare as needed on Saturday/Sunday.

Thanks for the help.

The regular fare for a 1 trip is 3.00$, going to the track and back to your hotel every day comes to 18$, I think you should do yourself a favor and buy those 16$ passes, that way you won't be wasting time to buy tickets every day.

Check the conditions on those passes, if they're not limited to going from/to the track it's even better, you could visit montreal and go anywhere you want for only 16$ for the whole week-end.

Parking ? It depends, where will you be staying ?

Interesting idea. I hope you are staying right near the border.

If you have grandstand tickets its not as bad, because you can arrive closer to the starting of the days, however there will be traffic and morning rushhour to deal with, not to mention the border crossing.

The yellow subway line is the one that stops next to the track, there are only 3 stops, Berri-Uqam (montreal), Parc Jean Drapeau (short walk to track) and Longueil (South shore of mtl). Your best bet is to go to the longueil station, parc and ride it to Parc Jean Drapeau, here is a basic approximation of the trip

keep in mind that its a 30-45min walk once you get to parc jean drapeau, and maybe longer depending on the crowd of people and where your seats are!

Or, if you prefer, you could take the ferry from L to the island. However, the best bet would be to arrive at 7:00 AM and park right on the island at the Parc Samuel de Champlain lot. I think it's maybe $20 a day. Take the Champlain Bridge, exit mid-way across. Easy-peasy. BUT it's full by 7:01 !!!

For what it's worth, I went to the Canadian GP last year and travelled by metro. A 3-day metro pass was $11 at the time and in my opinion very well worth it. It covers trips to the circuit each day as well as trips all over the city so if you head into the city centre in the evening for some local nightlife then it won't cost you any more money.

I'd also mention that it's a bit of a trek from the metro station to the circuit, as they're on neighbouring islands. Also, the metro was busy (busy!) but the place was swarming with police and everyone was, if I can phrase it this way, 'well behaved'. No pushing/shoving, frequent trains, clean trains. Definitely preferable to the London Underground, even if there were 100k people trying to get off the island at the same time.

Enjoy your trip!

forgot to mention that part,

at the end of the day sunday i found it best to relax under a tree with my friends for a couple hours drinking some beers and heckling ferrari fans.

The line for the metro when everyone leaving at once was quite horrible.
also on the same island as the metro every sunday is a party called piknik electronik. Its like a midday outdoor rave, good way to occupy some time while you wait for the lines to clear up!

I'm considering parking at Longueuil Metro station and taking the metro one stop east. Does that lot fill up? Any problems or tips I should be aware of?

the longueuil side is usually less full, but it will ALWAYS be crowded grandprix weekend. On friday you will have all the working commuters as well.
