 RESULTS of Quiz..
Tim Murray......18
Wenoopy..........11

CONGRATULATIONS>!!

   You are too generous Ron. My tally would be 5 or 6. Don't think I even answered 11 questions, and I almost sabotaged another of your questions - along with the Rob Muldoon comment I was going to say that this was around the the time of the "underarm" incident when all Australians were fair game.

As for Tom Clark's house/mansion, I thought that in your Military Training days at Hobsonville, you were probably even wilder than nowadays, and would surely have ended up in a fatigue party, scrubbing floors or cleaning the toilets of Clark House with a toothbrush! :rotfl:

CarlRabbidge,...Fantastic!!!...Jim, Yeah, that fits with my recolections of that time, Jim was basically the 'only' show in Town (Christchurch) when it came to 'outside' broadcast requirements,BUT!!.....was that the name that he operated under...Wornell ???...ronmac also pointed out Jim's trait of walking at twice the normal pace/speed......thank you for putting the 'name' to the image I had in mind when I dropped in on Ron's Quizzzzzzzzzzzzzz.................regards thunder427/MJ :)

 Good Afternoon MR. Wenoopy..With regard to the 11 points..Results show 9 but Question 2 is in 3 parts,
and your answer was the same info. I had..Though David said his Vercoes book showed first 3 in a different
order.for A.B.and C.and gave both you and David 3 point for the 3 answers.
E.G.For the difference between a pig and a gooney bird..I was looking for ..One is a Douglas DC3,propellor driven
and the other is an F1.11.Jet powered.. So between you and D.coupe the answer was enough..A point each..
Hobsonville..No I did,nt get an invite to Tom Clark.s home..I was.nt up to the standard required..as some would guess..
but I may have seen the home when we did our one and only route march (in 14 weeks ) Out the front gate, left turn
down the side fence, and in through the back gate .back to the barracks. and had the rest of the day off!! Tough Life.

Hi Thunder, some names do bring back memeories.

Jim used to supply the sound system for Timaru Motor Raceway (aka Levels) for all meetings including motor cycles and as he was one of the very few that Gerry McKissock would trust with a key he would arrive down some time on the Friday night and camp at the circuit in his van so as to be up at first light and start laying out his speakers, speaker stands and the miles of associated wires etc before we got underway at 9.00am sharp.

Early 1970 and I was now working on the West Coast, the NZ Post Office started to run some underground cabling in the district using a tractor & mole plough and I had to undertake a major rebuild of a plough and happened to mention this to Gerry. It was then "suggested" by Gerry that I go and give it a serious test in stony conditions to ensure there were no more linkage breakages before it went back into service. Getting it transported from one side of the country to the other outside of working hours posed some issues but once it was dismantled, the boot lid from my Mk 3 Zephyr removed and some plywood put over the top of the fuel tank to stop it being punctured by sharp objects it was loaded and a night time run to Timaru with the headlights scanning power poles and telephone wires was commenced. Saturday morning and Gerry meet me at the circuit with tools and a borrowed tractor. At the same time he had managed to get hold of a considerable amount of 045 cabling that had been used by the NZPO as tempoary wiring after a big snow storm a couple of years earlier and was now considered as surplus to requirements and between us we conducted a serious amount of testing and design evaluation ensuring that all was well before I loaded the thing back up for the return trip on Sunday. Naturally all of this testing of equipment did a magic job of setting up the underground wiring for not only our phone system but for Jims speakers.

Once this was done Jim still arrived on Friday night but he had time for breakfast before he started laying out his speakers etc on the Saturday morning.

Jim was one of that team of special men and those of us who have been fortunate enough to get the chance to skid the wheels owe so much to the people like him who laid the groundwork of what we now have and still enjoy today.
