FIA F3 was replaced by F.Junior 1959-63.62-63 there were effectivly only 2 racing formulas F1 & FJ,unless you count F.Libre down under.Amazing when you concider the number of different series nowThe first British F3 season was 1950, as that was the year that the FIA recognised the category as Formula 3. Races for 500 cc cars had been held in Britain in 1948 and 1949.
Around 1972 BRDC,BARC & BRSCC all organised thieir own championships for both F3 & FF.Leading competitors raced every beekend March to november-+ boxing day.
Heats and final were not uncomon.Monaco 1977 66 cars practiced but only 20 got to race as no time for heats as F1 needed more practice.

Even within the magazine there was never much publicity. I don't recall points standings during the season, or even a final table

Autosport published a points table every week following qualifying events.I suspect so. Organised by Autosport

The championship was strange by modern standards. There was no fixed list of rounds, any events over 10 miles counted provided it was at a qualifying circuit. Competitors had to register for the championship and had to claim marks by sending a postcard to the Editor of Autosport. The championship entry fee was 10s 6d. Longer races attracted more marks.
The qualifying circuits were: Blandford, Boreham, Brands Hatch, Brough, Castle Combe, Conington, Croft, Dundrod, Gamston, Goodwood, Jersey, Longside, Mullaghmore, Newtownards, Silverstone (GP and Club) Truxton and Winfield.

The Ecurie Richmond Coopers of Eric Brandon and Alan Brown would win the 1951 Autosport Formula 3 Championship with the JBSs of Peter Collins and Don Parker in third and fourth and Charlie Headland fifth. The Brands Hatch Junior Championship went to Bernie Ecclestone with Jack Moor and Ken Smith taking the non production class.
