The inscription on the trophy is interesting.

J M Lelievre was president of the ACO but he died in 1976 3 years before the date on the trophy.

Presumably the trophy was awarded in his honour but who to?

The inscription "Vainqueur a la Distance" suggests it was awarded to the overall winner who covered the longest distance (ie the #41 Ludwig, Whittington & Whittington Porsche 935), but if that's the case I'm surprised to see it being offered on eBay.

I tried searching for photos of the winners on the podium, but this is all I could find (no trophy in sight).

It might have been for one of the class winners, or the best French team.

Not eBay, and not really nostalgia, but there may be some items of interest here: http://www.wyleshardy.com/caterhamf1/

Just how many sets of tyre warmers and pit-lane trollies does a two-car team need? No wonder costs are through the roof and that they went to the wall.

I recently purchased this model of a Lotus30/40 on Ebay. It was made by Mini Gama,a German producer. I am very impressed by the general look, finish and accuracy of the casting. I don't know much about this maker but, assuming this was made in period, so to speak, I would guess this was produced as a toy rather than a collector's model. Strangely the box describes it as a Ford GT - and no, it is not in the wrong box as it has an illustration of the car on the box.

In gerneral you are right: GAMA die-cast were toys for most of the time. They re-issued some of their old tin model cars and those were beautifully made collectors items. The last two die-cast GAMA brought out was the Opel Omega B as sedan and station wagon. IMO were those two better made than the Minichamps from the same time.

With their die-cast production I think they kind of picked up where Dinky left the field. GAMA did also all the promotional models for Opel in the early 80s to the mid-90s.

I know it's from wikipedia but it might shine some light on the history of GAMA:
