The toughest battles should be going on at Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari, not at Haas and Force India.

Thanks Tyker!

The Ricciardo/Verstappen gap did change after Mexico, with Austin the qualifying gap was only 0.055s, such a small gap would tend not alter the overall average when that average itself is quite small.

Q2 times shouldn't really be taken for drivers who make it into Q3. The drivers from the top teams are not giving it the full beans as they have to start on that set so it isn't representative. often the track gets slower in Q3.

I would say the opposite is in fact true the track normally gets quicker in Q3.

Not even one thousand between Grosjean and Esteban?)

So Vettel is 10 - 9, or perhaps 9 - 10, i am guessing you excluded Singapore and Hungary?

It was 4 thousandths in favour of Grosjean and as I couldn't round it up to 1 hundredth I decided to call it a honorary draw, it's so small that it's no real difference.

Regarding Vettel/Raikkonen yes I excluded Singapore and Hungary.

Its 10 - 9 to Kimi in that case, even if by your method the gap is on Vettels side.

I'm only using the fastest lap of each driver whatever the qualifying session provided they both took part in the same session, the goal is to find the faster driver over 1 lap, what has happened here is that Vettel managed a faster lap in Q2 than either driver managed in Q3 so although Kimi out qualified Vettel for the grid, Vettel ultimately was the faster driver.

Oh i see, although it has been pointed out to you that drivers from top teams don't necessarily go full speed in q2, and the track sometimes (as was the case in Spain) actually gets slower in q3.

That is very iffy though as the only session when the drivers in top 6 qualifiers (This season) really give their everything is the Q3 session.

I would understand comparing the times from the last common Q session, but even that has it's flaws.

In Spain every driver did their fastest lap in Q3, if a driver has managed to do his fastest lap in Q2 I would be thinking that he was driving close to or on his limit when he did that?

Now if for instance a Q3 session was wet after a dry Q2 session then indeed I would be thinking that some drivers were not close to their limit in Q2, in particular the Mercedes drivers and maybe also the Red Bull and Ferrari drivers so I wouldn't be looking to use those times for that reason.

Can you run a quick only Q3 comparison on just the pairs that competed there on one or more occasions against each other?

My mistake, i was thinking of Silverstone not Spain, where 7 drivers in q3 went slower then in q2 and you assumed Kimis obviously scrappy lap in q2 (slightly slower then his q1 lap btw) was his best effort when conditions were arguably the best for the majority of them.

Sorry for the late replies.

To Turssi, I could do that obviously but it would take some time as you might imagine, for me the results would not interest me, sorry.

To Zilbert, yes I see were you are coming from but I'm loath to disregard data that is less than 2 tenths between drivers.
