A Youtube movie shows the '57 or '58 German Formula 1 race with a Porsche 550 entered. Does anyone know who the driver was and how it finished? I would bet someone on this forum could tell me the chassis number, too.

There were three Porsche RS550s in the 1957 race, competing in a F2 class. Drivers were Edgar Barth Carel de Beaufort and Umberto Maglioli, they finished first, third and retired respectively. De Beaufort raced in the 1958 event as well, but retired.

Unfortunately the Black Books don't show any chassis numbers for either event for these Porcshe's.

I have no record of a 550 racing in such events, but are you sure it wasn't a later RSK (718)? Here's what my (incomplete) records show for RSK 718-005: first race ‘58 Nuerburgring; Behra/Herrmann; ‘58 Le Mans #29, 1.6 engine, won 2-l class, 3rd oa; ‘58 AVUS, Berlin GP for Sports Cars, Behra, 1st; later driven by von Trips?

The F1R Black Book lists the three Porsches in the 1957 race as 550RS models. In the 1958 race de Beaufort's private car is listed as a 1500RS, and the works car of Edgar Barth is listed as an RSK.

I have photos of all three Porsches in the '57 German GP. They were all 550s, and Maglioli's had what appears to be "162911" painted quite small on the nose. Not sure if a chassis number could be derived from this or not.
