Long career in movies and television, and a quick racer when he had the chance:

Thompson results from 1954

I don't know if he had any official or honorary capacity at an early Long Beach race, but he was touring the course in a van, standing so he was shoulders-out of the sunroof. As he passed Turn 12 I recognized him and hollered his name. The driver stopped the van and he returned my wave and thumbs-up.

I recall reading about Jackie Cooper racing in the mid fifties, but the mists of time mean that I cannot tell you anything specific. I do recall an article in a magazine of the day about Austin-Healey doing some speed runs at Bonneville, and Cooper was one of the drivers.
