Wheldon's problem I have heard is a total loss of road racing skill. I haven't heard anything personality wise just lack of skill. As IndyCar gets more Will Power's type drivers a more well rounded driver will be needed. I think soon Kanaan and Castro-Neves will fall into the Wheldon problem. I would love to be wrong though. The talent level is going up quickly.
Versus is showing ALL of Pole Day and Bump Day. I will be sitting in Turn One for Bump Day. I find Bump Day more exciting because the cars are driven much harder with set-ups that may not be optimal. A lot of talent and luck keep people off the walls. You can definitely tell who is hanging it out. Pole day is nice but the good cars seem to be a lot more stable on Pole Day.
I was able to get a look at the new cars this weekend and although the aero is "conservative" they are nice to look at. Funny to see CART and F1 influences in the road race car. The good thing about an Oval car there is nothing other than IndyCars to compare them to.

Danica cranked out a 226.3, which, as far as I know, is the fastest lap of the month so far.

Something definitely broke to cause the crash. The rear collapsed through turn 3.

Nasty crash. And that was no oil fire. I wonder what ruptured to cause it? Surely not the fuel cell or it would have been even worse.

It's about 20 degrees warmer than it was in the two earlier practices. (In Fahrenheit of course).

What second degree burns mean? I hope it's nothing too serious to prevent her from taking part in qualy! She needs to build up some experience on ovals, so it's already a setback for her.

A little deeper into the skin. You get some blisters and stuff, but it's not *too* serious.

Blisters, essentially. She's pretty tough and was back in training right away after similar injuries when her car caught fire at TMS last year. Let's hope for the best.

Burns are bloody painful as they damage the nerve ends, so it's not the physical damage, but the agony that can decide what you can or cannot do after being burned.

I'd think it'd be fairly tough for her to make it back for pole day unless she's got some real grit to her. And does she have a backup car? Last year I don't think she did.

Just saw Simona's crash, scary stuff...

Suspension collapsed and turned the car into an airplane, I wonder what would have happened if the car was fitted with all the bodywork they're planning to have in the future?

Maybe she would have made the stands...

Wow, sorta a cross between the Rick Mears crash in 1992 (?) at Indy and Ronnie Duman's crash at Milwaukee when he came down on the top of the wall with fatal results after tangling with other cars. Simona may not realize how much more serious it could have been.

Hi Folks ,

Just a heads up that Today May 20th 2011 the United states Postal Service will issue the Commemorative stamp honoring the 100th anniversary of the Indy 500.

Those in Indianapolis area may wanna find out which branch the actual ceremony for the issuing will be occuring so you might be able to pick up not only the stamps but special 1st day postmark as well.

And those of yall not in the Indianapolis area can check to see if their cities have the stamps in stock as well .

thanks

Paul

Low 230s probably, they're flat most of the way around.

I think one of the concerns they want to address with the new chassis is cars getting airborne. I suspect the bits of bodywork you see behind the wheel are there to prevent cars launching into the catch fence when they make wheel to wheel contact.

I may be wrong but it seems odd to me for a car to get airborne in a solo crash. When Mario did it a few years back he hit debris. I guess if the rear suspension collapsed it would lower the back thus raising the front and up it went.

Can't escape that I guess, but my guess is that you can't have it both ways...

You can't have bodywork that'll save your arse when wheel-to-wheel contact is made, and also have it pretend it isn't there when it'll float you into the stands..

It's just a big experiment this, as it always was..

Some guys are, and most are near enough. It's not difficut to understand the point I was making. The cars dont have very high straight speeds.

Poor sweetheart. I am glad that it wasn't worse. But that's the only reason I hate women racing, coz I don't want them to ever get hurt! Apart from that, I think it's cute to see em behind the wheel awwwwww!

Of course it's not nice when anyone get's hurt...

I dunno, mixed doubles tennis? I wasn't talking about competitiveness, I was talking about safety only. Hope I didn't sound chauvinistic at all. Enery huh?

3 Day Eventing, several women world champions; show jumping ditto - So why should we leave them out? Would it be because they don't support your argument?
