Taking the advantage that the thread is derailing to women...

Is it completly safe that Milka Duno is not coming to the 500?

Think your safe there Red,she is the the slowest of 3 women in ARCA.
Simona shunt made the national TV news here this morning.First time the event has been mentioned by the media to my knowledge.Glad I did not see that live,as I would have been very upset. She is my favourite driver-period.Hope she can get something sorted for qualifying.

Tweet from James Black @16AndGeorgetown: Simona has not been cleared to drive:

Simona met with IMS and INDYCAR medical staff this morning and was not cleared. The schduled media availability has been postponed.

Crud.

Is it me, or does the HANS and headrest combination make it more difficult than it used to be for a driver to get out of the car unaided?

Not only does HANS make extrication harder, it necessitates spotters coaching their drivers around the circuit, telling them when they can pass and whatnot. But HANS has been deemed worthwhile because it so fully stabilizes (immobilizes really) the neck and head. Now during the age when fire was a very real and present danger, the utility of HANS would have been more dubious.

Shame about Simona but when the wreck happened I was not thinking about anything other than survival.
Ed Carpenter just ran a 228 in Sarah's car!!

Hopefully Simona will be improved enough that she'll at least be able to attempt qualification.

PS--I guess Fisher won't attempt to qualify her #57 car? A damn shame.

Didn't she say last year that she was going to retire (from driving duties)?

Yeah, she's just the team owner now, plus her and husband want to start a family, iirc.

Right, but she does have another car entered for the '500'. I'm just wondering why she doesn't have a driver. Hell, I'm available!

PS--Tags with a 228.2. He's been damned fast all month.

PPS--Make that 228.3.

Sarah Fisher announced her first pregnancy on March 31. There's no way she's driving at Indy this year.

Briscoe and Power running in tandem, not exactly the most exciting thing ever. And now they've got Pretty Princess Sparkle Pony ahead.

EDIT: I hope they keep the streaming on the website for the race itself.

Don't hear of Townsend Bell for yonks, jumps into an Indycar, does only 11 laps and on the 8th he's 3rd fastest of the day - Hmm. We know he isn't that good, so are the cars that easy to drive, or did he get lucky with the set-up, or am I missing something?

How's this for a fast four? Tags, Baguette, Carpenter and Bell.

Could there be a shakeup this year at Indy that excludes Penskenassi? I still doubt it, but it would be nice.

Scott Speed just quit Dragon Racing, Jacques Lazier will most likely replace him.

He's Tags teammate and has a Ganassi chassis that Sam Schmidt bought. I'd say he's got some good equipment.

Sounds like a possible opportunity for Speed to jump in Fisher's other car. If he's not afraid of Indy, that is.

What was up with that? Dragon Racing is not a bad option at all for a one-timer.

I have to change my statement a bit. He quit for a few minutes and then Dragon team personnel and him had a meeting. If he makes any quip tomorrow about the car, the team, or whatever, he's gone in favor of Jimmy Kite or Jacques Lazier.

Interesting part of an article from IndyStar.com

Brick-laying replay

Just as her father did 50 years ago, board chairman Mari Hulman George will join A.J. Foyt at the start-finish line Tuesday to place a 50-pound gold brick among the yard of bricks.

In 1961, on the 50th anniversary of the 500, track owner Tony Hulman and Foyt put a gold brick in place that is now on display at the Hall of Fame Museum. Foyt claimed the first of his four Indy wins that year.

Track officials said no decision has been made on what to do with the new gold brick after the race. It could go to the winner or the museum, or stay in place at least through the Speedway's other two events this year.

That would be about $1,200,000 if it went to the winner.

According to the commentators on the Indy site Speed had a heated discussion with the team, said that his car felt "way too loose" and left in anger.

Simona managed 26 laps in the T car then pitted and has just come back out.
Bia put in a good 226mph. Don't know if she had a tow?

Looks like the free stream is ending shortly..So I goes a huntin' for a PoleDay feed

Simona on track now....

ETA: She doesn't bump Scheckter, but the Frankenstein car is actually looking pretty solid. Bia is in 22nd for now and it looks as if she'll go to the pole shootout.

ETAA: Carpenter SPANKING it. Wow! Sixth fastest! Just bumps Sato out of the top 9.

Junqueira now on the bubble. Briscoe on track.
