Great photos Giraffe ,you been a busy boy at Silverstone. I know Wee Jackie who is the other person.
Cheers Eldougo
As per the caption, Lord Irvine Laidlaw is the second wealthiest man in Scotland (& that takes some doing!). Google him at your peril....... Simon Hadfield (also pictured) runs many of his huge stable of exotic racecars
By giraffe138 at 2011-05-15
& helps stick them back together when he breaks them.....

Not sure who you mean by "the other person", but we have Lord Laidlaw in the light overalls and Simon Hadfield in the darker overalls so, as the captions says "A couple of interested visitors dropped by the Hadfield garage to say hello to fellow Scot Irvine Laidlaw today", one would presume the second visitor was Lady Stewart
Yes indeed David, Lady Helen is pictured there with her back to the camera. Oh, & the original Martini Trophy remains in the possession of the AMOC.

DAVID it might be obvious to a YOU however I do not know them apart from Jackie that is why i was asking the QUESTION .

Sorry - none of my business - just don't like seeing folks get upset needlessly! :-)
I first went to the original Martini Trophy in 1972(??) - anyway the very wet one (we got drenched) which Merzario won, having been led by Quester's Chevron-BMW (which I've always assumed was the development for the F2 engine. Any thoughts?)

No more is Lord Laidlaw Lord Irvine Laidlaw. He is a life peer not the son of a Duke, Earl or Marquess ( and maybe others)Thanks Tony

Maybe I should be on the BP thread.

I loved the Turnkey GT & Sports Car Cup; I think the E-Type 90 drove most of the race on 3 wheels; I certainly have pictures of him on 3 wheels as he went onto the Wellington Straight and I gather he was doing the same at Club too.

Irvine Laidlaw & Simon Hadfield battles Leo Voyazides & err... Simon Hadfield for second place in the Turnkey GT & Sports Car Cup
Was Mr H in and out of both cars? If so, would it be possible to come second and third in the same race?
I'm in touch with Irvine's brother from time to time, he used to race quite a bit too; until Athur Itis put paid to that.

As you can see from the results Pete, Simon managed to qualify 2nd & 3rd, but only managed to finish in 2nd & 8th place. I think Irvine was starting to run out of steam tho' as he didn't bother with his Chevron B19 in the later Martini Trophy & settled for a good bottle of wine instead!.

Agreed. She seems to be getting slower. In the equivalent race at last year's meeting her best lap was around 134% of the fastest time. This year it was 147% in the second race, even more in the first. In fairness, last year she was in the Eagle, not the Lola.No 107% rule though...!

She actually looked painfully slow through the infield complex, and she doesn't even bother to floor the throttle on the straights but just cruises. Between gearshifts there's a sort of pregnant pause. She was almost a minute a lap slower than husband Frank; nonchalant, I'd say..............

Even the slowest Formula Juniors had a higher average speed.
I dread to think what would happen if one of the front-runners came up on her unexpectedly, e.g. popped out of a slip-stream just at the wrong moment.

Lovett at the double in Martini Trophy
The Martini Trophy got off to a great start at Silverstone (14/15 May) with Ed Lovett taking a pair of victories during the HSCC International Trophy meeting on the Grand Prix circuit.
Created by the Historic Sports Car Club, the Martini Trophy is for the 2-litre sports-racing cars of the 1970s and has a four-event schedule in 2011. A very encouraging 20-car field arrived at Silverstone, with tremendous quality including former Le Mans racer John Sheldon and period 2-litre racer John Burton.
However, it was Lovett who made the running in his Lola T296, twice out-pacing the March 75S of Doug Hart. Saturday’s victory marked Lovett’s first overall race win, although oil and then light rain made it a testing race. But Lovett kept it all together to stay six seconds clear of the battle between Hart and Burton (Chevron B26). “It went perfectly,” said Lovett after a famous victory.
Racing for the first time since late in 2009, Burton pushed Hart hard over the opening half of the race before being slowed by a worsening misfire, later traced to a fuel pump problem.
A fabulous battle for fourth, and victory in the non-wing class, featured five cars in the early stages. Unfortunately, John Sheldon (Chevron B19) and Manfredo Rossi (Osella PA01) were eliminated in a tangle at Becketts. Sheldon felt he had been in with a shot at catching the B19 of non-wing class winner Sandy Watson before being forced to retire. Instead, Watson had to fend off the Lola T210 of Charlie Kemp on his way to class victory, while Neil Primrose (Lola T212) was also in contention in the early laps.
Sunday’s race followed a similar pattern with Lovett driving superbly to complete the double. This time, Hart got clear of Burton from the start to make sure of second place as the major battle was for fourth overall and victory in the non-wing class. Watson chased after early leader Kemp and then mounted a lengthy challenge on his younger rival. But Kemp held on tenaciously for fourth overall and first in class. Primrose again wrapped up the top six overall after a strong run.
Hart was one of the many drivers to rave about the opening event. “I loved it,” he said. “It’s what I’ve been waiting for ever since I bought the 2-litre car.” Burton was equally enthused by the start of the series. “It’s great to just have 2-litre cars in the race,” he said.
