I think Tony has already posted at least 37 shots of everything, but just in case...

What's going on here? A friend who went along mentioned this car to me, and we both thought it was odd, unless it was running forest suspension like an old rally Escort!

He also mentioned seeing a Mercedes that (he's not very good on historics) had been in some race in Mexico. From what he said it sounded like a SLR - he said it was being treated very carefully - but no pics here. If it was a SLR, I would have thought it would have been subject of great interest, so he was probably mistaken.

I understand that the car is set up with no -or virtually no-suspension travel at the front at all. It is subject to huge amounts of testing time and they have got the car to work like this. Very strange.
PS Were there any paying punters at Silverstone ?

There were six of us at Club Corner on saturday. Dont know if any of the others payed though. I couldnt help but notice that the meeting had been named after the old International Trophy Race that used to attract a crowd of around around 100,000 in the 1950's. I doubt if there were a couple of hundred spectators last weekend.

There wasn't a great turnout on Sunday either but it was still higher than usually turns up to Club race meetings. I always wish that, if even a tenth of those who come to the big events were to turn out for one "clubbie" meeting then it would make a huge difference to everybody involved: drivers, teams, circuit, fans, caterers, marshals, medics and perhaps explain that there is more to motorsport than just the F1 and/or the Moto GP.

The HSCC just rent the circuit so there is nothing in it for them to promote it. It was on the circuit's website, but not worthy of any promotion as it was not one of their own events.
There was only a handful of TNFers there let alone regular punters, but at the BARC event the weekend before, there was just a handful of spectators, a couple of dozen at most.

Tell me about it! I was there. I'm at Silverstone most weekends.

I suspect he means Georg Nolte's 300 SL. Don't have my photos to hand, but I'll try to post one later.

I was one of the paying public , and the one thing that annoyed me was there is literally nowhere to take photos of on track action with a small digital camera like i have without being miles away from the track and trying to shoot through wire fencing .
Hence why most of my photos are paddock and pit garage shots.

That said i only ever attend Historic meetings for the sheer sight of all the cars i saw in period , those in period livery make it all worth while .

Just another sign of advancing (rapidly advancing) old age and senilty.

By the way who is that fellow in the cream jacket, he looks familiar?

Is it .........................

Alan,
I have already admitted to being a silly old fool on another web site due to not being able to remember the correct address for my own web site.

The shame. The humiliation. The scorn. Oh! Woe is me!

I can only hope people think it worth the effort.

bauble.

It's the Paul Hocking owned 1946cc car which he shared with Gareth Burnett who did the rebuild, Roger. It was owned some years ago by TNFer John Ruston.

The Minshaw / Stretton winning E-Type managed to do it on three wheels only.....

That car doesn't look like a period E-type special, so I suppose the modsports approach to "historic" racing as advocated by "Silkolene" in this Forum 2-3 years ago is quite widespread.

I think I am correct in saying that the car was built up last year and has no period racing history.

He also mentioned seeing a Mercedes that (he's not very good on historics) had been in some race in Mexico.

As promised, here's the Nolte 300SL.

Judging from the taped-over number on the door, it has taken part in the modern 'recreation' of the Carrera Panamericana.

On the E types that were out on Sunday there were some that looked like mod sports the front runner s ? and the midfield who looked like more like period cars .

My main gripe would be the oversized looking wheels/tyres on the lead E type and Cobra , i acknowledge that these may well be period correct as in the later cars may have used this size.

Perhaps there should be a sort of Marque car and Modified type of classing , whereby the Marque version would be like a road going vehicle with limited mods and the Mod version with all the add ons that seem to be prevalent on the lead cars .

These are just my thoughts and by no means is a critcism any car /entrant/driver Etc .

I enjoy the sight of all the cars at this meeting and thank all of the car drivers & preperation men who make the sight a possability .

The views expressed here are personal and may not be the same as you .

I've often wondered just what people get from watching these modern specials at "historic racing" meetings. We have a lot of specials in the VSCC, but mostly they are controlled to be what would have been possible in period, and we do get a lot of original cars.
The few road cars pictured in this thread are what I remember seeing racing in the 1950s/60s in substantially original form (well appearance) and then as continuously developed club racers into the '70s/80s/90s at events like the Eight Clubs/BMRMC/MCC/SUNBAC Silverstones . In the latter form they have not the claim to be historic that they once had, and such claim as they have would be with period mods. I'd say.
Not sure about the flat-iron sports cars - they all looked alike to me at the time - and the junior formulae single-seaters, where my period involvement was to count the Formula Fords past at the end of the first lap to help the timekeepers know how many had fallen off.
