Would anyone know the dates for the '66, '73, '75, '76, '78 and '79 Brands Hatch 6 Hours? Thanks in advance.

World Championship for Makes rounds:
'76 -- 25th Sept.
'79 -- 5th Aug.
(according to Higham - probably have the programmes for these, but not here).

What references do you have for the other years? I don't believe all of those years had such races.

EDIT:
apologies - the 25th Sept race was a 1977 WCM round, not 1976 (in response to Tim's post below)

This is a link to the 1967 race at Racingsportscars.com

You should be able to find the other races you are looking for quite easily

I have been there when studying in England in 1980, on my pictures album I recorded as a 1000 kms race. Am I wrong, it was a 6 hours event ?

Although the OP didn't ask about '67, which Julian linked to - if that year is of interest for researching, note that race is often referred to as the 'BOAC 500', even though it was run over 6 hours (actually covering nearer to 580 miles - 1000km format being adopted some years later). The previous year had a 500-mile race (not a part of the World Championship) - that should be fairly easy to find a few more details of (won by David Piper, IIRC? - but I don't recall anything else).

Ralliart seemed to asking about specific years, so I assume he/she has info on these years; but, whatever...

re. the 1980 (photographed by Louism, above):
if I'm thinking of the correct year, the 1980 race was a bit complicated - still nominally a '6-hour' race rather than a set distance, but stopped around half-way through (after the fatal accident of Martin Raymond) and then restarted, presumably for whatever daylight was left, (if not all cars had lights). I think the result was declared for the laps completed up to the stoppage plus a length of time for the second part. Very confusing.

Whoops in my haste, I got the year wrong and the link doesn't work. Other than that it's fine - apologies.

Incidentally, despite my initial optimism, I am struggling to find the races referred to, were they non championship ?

From the usually-reliable WSRP site:

1966: 8th May (500 miles)
1979: 5th August (6 hours)

No race is listed in any of the other specified years. I think it safe to conclude that there were no races in those years.

Hope you don't think I was criticizing, Julian - I think the way threads can broaden out can unearth all sorts of things (not to mention that the '67 race was won by chassis number 2F-001 !) - just wanted to save anyone searching out dates unecessarily. I don't have my books and magazines to hand - just happened to have the 'Higham' book here, which just lists the WCM races and doesn't list any other enduros among the major races at Brands.

I didn't get along to anything like all of those races; I know it wasn't held every year though. Later on there was the WCM (generally 1,000kms and up, for the G5-style cars, 935s etc)) and the WSC (shorter races for the more prototype/G6 style cars) both running concurrently (at different meetings) which really confuses a lot people researching those years, especially if they weren't following the racing at the time.

I made a mistake (thanks Tim) - one of the races I referred to in my first post was 77, not 76. Have added a note to that post to clarify.

Not at all, I'm pleased you mentioned my oversight, it gave me a chance to correct it !

I should learn to check my assumptions before going into print !

Became a 1000k race in 1970. As previously mentioned the 1966 Ilford Films 500 was not WSC race (yes won by Piper and Bondurant in a 7 litre Cobra).

Pete - do you happen to have the results for the '66 race to hand? I'm curious as to whether they were able to cover the 500 miles in 6 hours (for no reason other than idle curiosity given the sometimes-anomalous name of the event).

This old thread will probably answer your query regarding the 1966 event, Tony.

PS I don't think there was one in 1973 - but I am waiting to be proved wrong.

Thank you, Davidson. And apologies for not looking a bit harder!

That result may be why nobody felt an imperative to move on from the '500' tag when moving to a 6-hour format... although of course the machinery was rather different in the following year's race.

I don't think there was a race in '78, either.

I have the 1973 fixture booklet for MCD circuits and in the Brands section there is no WSCC race scheduled.

I have just found the race programme after a few years hidden away !!! Won by David Piper and Bob Bondurant in a 7 Litre Shelby Cobra.............some great names in the race too, Roger Enever and Alec Poole 3rd overall in an MGB that was near standard ( IIRC it was Roger's regular road car...............it rained too, from a very poor memory ! :smoking:
