Lewis said to BBC FIA mistreated him because he is black. I like him, but that was one of the worst comment I have ever heard from him.

He was joking. But his comment is very silly, like his race.

It was obviously a joke. Misrepresent if you wish.

He was joking and made it obvious it was but it was a very ill judged comment.

Ummm Massa you may want to reword that....

I hope that he gets slapped down hard for that extremely stupid comment. He is better treated than many drivers, how many times has he escaped justifiable penalties in the past?

Bringing the sport into disrepute? A 1-2 race ban on the way?

That was a joke, he realised what he'd said just afterwards and immediately explained he was quoting Ali G. Nonetheless when he said he was being victimised by the stewards, he meant it. :well:

So, Lewis has one bad race and this place explodes with new threads? And even his race wasn't that bad, he made some places, did some really good overtakes and some not so good.

Even as a joke, the race card should not be used otherwise it devalues what it means and for those whose race really is an issue.

Pretty sure that the topic of the thread is different from the others. One is about his driving, one about his lying, one about his playing the race card.

And then there is one circle jerk for his fans. And I guess the LOTR also.

The black thing was clearly a joke, but I think after all the mess he brought to the race I think it is not the right time to make that kind of jokes IMO.

Yeah, Lewis was pissed but he was joking about the racism and its good to see people mouthing off rather than being PR friendly idiots.

I just want to read in the papers and news about the racin or at least F1 related disputes. I don't want to read this headline's about racism in Formula 1.

The Ali G thing might have been a joke but it was really stupid and journalists are going to pick up on it and print it as if he meant it.

Also there are about three threads on the same theme can these be merged please?

He had a horible race and he plays the victim card with FIA and the other drivers.

He blamed FIA, Schumi, Toro Rosso, Massa in the last week although it was all his fault.

Maybe he should just grow up.

What's funny about racism? FIA has done a whole campaign to beat the crap out of those silly fans who lambasted him in Spain. It's not funny at all, even if put as a joke.

How can he claim it was a joke if he was seriously angry. Either he is not angry and this is not really playing the race card, or he is pissed off and playing the race card.

This

Racism is no joking matter, and the FIA must take this seriously if they are lamenting the racism campaign. A fine at max.

It's not the fact he said it in a joking way, it's the timing of it. He's just driven like a complete tool, is clearly frustrated & then comes out with a statement that in the right setting/context could be funny but at that exact moment is just infantile.

He does need to mature and stop thinking about his "worldwide persona" and concentrate on what makes him probably the naturally fastest guy out there.

All he's done is allow the clearly racist people out there to claim "oh we're just joking around, just like you were when interviewed at monaco".

Luckily (?) his 2nd comment may have drowned out the 1st - where he very kindlt slagged off his fellow drivers.

Looking at it objectively which I hope I can do.

1. Lewis is really pissed off.
2. He absolutley can't see anything wrong with his own driving (this may change when he reviews race)
3. As he can't see a reason (as he sees it) for punishment of his drive, he lashes out with a "I don't know, maybe its becasue I am black"...which he instantly regretted and so added the Ali G comment.

I keep thinking of an old phrase. "Many a true word said in jest". So I wonder if Lewis begins to believe it for real.

I don't care what he is doing and which comments he is making. He gains maximum possible result for McLaren, and I'm happy with that.

What's the big deal.
Hamilton is regularly being ridiculed with ape sounds and other racist stuff.
Let's not make a big hoopla about what was clearly a cynical remark in which he literally mentioned "Ali G".
