Some wonderful pictures from Dennis Marwood:

Dennis is in the TD #108 and Jim is in his TF (second from right, with black helmet).
The dark coloured TF on the right is fitted with a blower!!!

The Hamilton Car Club ran grass track races at Waharoa airfield (just North of Matamata) for a number of years, at least as late as 1966. Around that time fields could include Jim Boyd in the Lycoming, and the old HWM sports driven by G Hallen. They also ran them at Raglan airfield in the early 1960's, at New Year or Anniversary weekend (end January) and Simon Taylor won two years in the D-Type Jaguar. Does anyone have any photos?

And why not? It probably had plenty of miles left in it, just like Fangio's chewing gum!

I am not sure of the correctness of your dates Wenoopy (I lived there at the time). However as we become more mature memory can play tricks! And I hate to be seen to be critical of people like you!
Waharoa I think finished sooner than the late 60's and Raglan did carry on till at least 1967 or 68 as I was flag marshalling on the track which later became a part of the Maori Land claim "stuff". I know what car I drove there and did not own it for long, all I have to do is be sure of the year. It was not Jan 67 (too early) more likely Jan 68 and could even have been 69. Les Reisterer had the MER, Graham Meekings the Mermaid, Boyd in Lycoming (?).
Waharoa, I did not have a drivers licence so pre Sept 65.
Don't forget the Matamata street races! My Dad was the Town Clerk who signed off on them. I well remember him coming home to ask a couple of teenage boys (a friend and I) if they thought it would be good for the town, on getting agreement he then suggested they be approved by council. At the time there was a very dramatic photo in Motorman inside the back cover of a VERY frosty morning and a front engine Formula Junior with a couple of lads breathing out the foggy breath. That was the same 2 teenage boys!

The front engine Formula Junior must have been the Lola Mk2 - ex Team Fitzwilliam Racing, Cambridge Racing Team, John Histed (via Phil Kerr) and probably by that time owned and driven by Ken Smith?
