Cars will qualify in the usual way for the first race. The grid for the second race will be set by a blind draw immediately after the first race ends. Teams have one hour of prep time between the first and second races. Pit locations are set according to Indy qualifying results. Each team gets an extra engine to use for the second race, if they need it.

Indy Lights Champ in 2005 and 3 time Freedom 100 winner, but never had the money to step up.
And who's this Wade Cunningham bloke running for Schmidt?
Glad to see he's finally getting his chance. About time he ran with the big boys and girls.

If you crash, and people crash at Texas, do you get to use a backup car or whatever for Race 2?

Only if you're rich enough to have one....

Good question - I hope so.
Would be great if the grid flip flops for the 2nd installation.

If not, expect some mighty cautious racing in the first race. Lots of points to be lost if you crash out in race No.1.

How are the pit positions decided?
In this case you get to pick in order of your Indy grid position. So Tagliani/Schmidt got first call.

Thanks. I asked because Penske's cars are all over the place, and apart from Helio getting the one after the 2nd gap don't seem like the obvious choices.

I'll be about 25 sections away. Kind of looking forward to the Formula DRIFT event that precedes the main races. It beats Robbie Knievel jumping over a bunch of police cars.

Drifting is not ****ing racing.
Which is why I called it an "event" instead of a "race," which is more than the TMS site did. I think the spectacle of it is fun; there's some crazy car control involved. And again - better than a motorcycle jump, which is also not "racing."

At least they're still printing tickets for this one. I'm not happy about the trend towards printing them out at home like they're boarding passes or something.

Thought you had fallen over and hit a sharp portion of one of your souvenirs at about lap 179 of the 500!!!
Good to see ya back
He's been signed by Versus to do "color" for the broadcast. So the guy who won the Indy 500 is watching at home with the rest of us?
Hope DankBank and the irrepressible ktsayshi have a great time.
I will be rolling back from the LeMans party at our pub to see this live at 1-frickin'-thirty am on Saturday.

And really who has a printer at home.
It's not the printer, it's the result. I liked collecting the stubs, and now it's just another piece of paper.

Actually, for those of us on the western side of the pond, Dan Wheldon will be in the broadcast booth providing color commentary on Versus. Wally Dallenbach is covering the NASCAR race for TNT this weekend.

That hits home.
I had a shoebox full of stubs dating back to the early seventies of the shows and races I've been to, the earliest show was Sly and the Family Stone from 1971 and the earliest race was 1970 at Ontario Motor Speedway.
The wife said 'why?' and out into the trash they went...

Matt Curry is the new race strategist for Ana Beatriz, starting in this round.
The change was motivated by complains from Bia about Indy500 calls.
It was interesting listening to Danica educating her spotter while lapping Indy at 220MPH, telling him it was useless to just say that there is traffic inside or outside and to be specific, like "There are two cars on the outside or one car on the inside" - Someone should prosecute her for using a mobile while driving....

She just out qualified her team mate Justin Wilson.
