In 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1982 there were two 6 hour sports car races held at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, as part of the IMSA GT Championship, as follows:

1975 - June & August
1976 - June & August
1977 - June & August
1982 - May & September

Why were there 2 races held only during these years?

Graham are you suggesting this list of 6 hour races for the years you mention at Mid Ohio is incomplete ?

Not knowing much about the IMSA GT Championship or Mid Ohio seems a bit of a stretch to imagine 2 x 6 hour events at the same venue in the space of a year ?

I struggled to get to two 6 hour sports car events at two different venues in the UK through the 1980's so if it happened at all I imagine spectator attendance might have been an issue ?

Five hundred mile (six hour) races were tried in the early years of the IMSA.
Not just at Mid-Ohio.
As the years went by, for varying reasons, it was found that one hundred mile, or so, sprint races just worked out better than the long enduros.

Long races work well for ovals, but on road courses, it can get to be a boring grind for the average fan.
