Button to replace Massa at Ferrari?

"A source at the Maranello based team told the News of the World tabloid that there has been “a lot of talk” about 2009 world champion Button, who is currently Lewis Hamilton’s teammate at McLaren, joining Ferrari alongside Fernando Alonso next year.
The news follows Button’s claim last week that, despite Martin Whitmarsh saying he would extend the 31-year old’s McLaren deal, he sees “no sense” in signing a new long-term contract."

A GMM-syndicated story reporting on something the News of the World have conjured up?

I hate these rumors. Any move from one of the top three teams to one of the other ones is a move sideways, not forward.

What?

So to "move forward" Button should do what?

Alonso would never allow Button to join Ferrari while he is there.

In terms of car competitiveness, any driver moving from Red Bull, Ferrari or McLaren to Red Bull, Ferrari or McLaren is not 'moving forward' in any meaningful sense. One team may be a better atmosphere for a driver, but the fans that get so attached to these BUTTON TO FERRARI/HAMILTON TO RED BULL/WEBBER TO MCLAREN rumors are being extremely shortsighted when they act like one team is going to be far ahead of the others for the foreseeable future. There is enough parity in the top three teams that even if going from one to the other is a good move it's not the huge leap forward for the driver fans make it out to be.
