I have just purchased 1964 Morris Cooper from Victoria, and it appears to have hallmarks of an early 60's "series production racing car", racing harness, extra bonnet catch, fire extinguisher, and wiring for a tacho.

Am wondering if the knowledgable out there can assit me. Car was Smoke Grey, with a white roof. Had a 997cc originally, which is long gone.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Colour pics from the early Bathurst 500s would help...

I'm sure there was one that colour.

Jeff,

Smoke Grey & Nurburg White roof was a pretty popular colour scheme for 997's, as is the features you describe. The 997 engine missing is also almost the norm. So many received 1098 or quite often 1275 transplants, as the lads tried to keep up with a Cooper S. The Oz-built 997 wasn't produced in huge numbers to begin with, so now very rare.

PM me and I'll see whether I have any details.

Stephen

A LOT of early Coopers and Ss got used for club type motorsport. It was quite trendy to have racing harnesses, tachos etc on street cars over the decades
