Just wanted to start a thread for those who will be attending the Monterey event August 17th through the 21st. Would love to meet up with TNF'ners sometime over the weeks festivities. I would like to get there sometime on Tuesday to take in the Art and Memorabilia show at the Embassy Suites Hotel. Any takers??

I can't make the Automobilla on Tuesday but will be there on the Wednesday. The Laguna Seca press credentials are issued from the same location but we can't get them until Thursday. My route to Monterey is; Sydney, Auckland, San Francisco, Chicago, Knoxville, Miami, San Francisco, Livermore and then Monterey... I hope it's worth it.

Two places I always try and visit..........

Gianni's Pizza in Monterey. 725 Lighthouse. Three blocks up the hill from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Great pizzia, lots of beer, good prices.

Sand Bar Restaurant, really a local hangout. It is under the Muni Wharf #2. Park, walk about 200 feet out onto the pier, there is a sign and a set of stairs on the left side, walk down the stairs and you are below the pier. Some of the best seafood in Monterey, great views as you are almost at water level and good prices. (831) 373-2818, you might want to call for reservations.

Give me a call on Friday, would like to put a face to the person lapping me in Group 5a.

Yes indeed. I have dined there and found the stuffed flounder exceptional. Piano playing in the background, seals frolicking right in front of the windows, by all means go there!

I will be staying at Laguna Seca (Chaparral campground) Thursday through Sunday.
Hope to get to the Sand Bar Restaurant, perhaps Saturday -- thanks for the tip Mike.

I am hitching a ride with the Stand 21 people, they have their usual sales booth in the paddock. I have my TNF badge somewhere in my desk, I will find it and wear it. if I cannot find it, I will wear this cool 1966 Indy 500 silver badge I just received as a gift from Bob McConnell.

Great, hope to see all there. BTW, I have a campsite at the track for sale, spot 159A. No hookups but a great view of the valley. Face value of $225. PM me off list and I can go over the details.

Very nice gesture by Mr. McConnell. Your Cooper was on the 1967 badge.

To all going, have a great weekend. One of these days I've got to attend.

As posted on another thread:

Sadly, I won't be there. Watch out for Sir Stirling Moss and Lady Susan. I don't he will be racing, but I think he should be there. There are some clips on youtube from today's Pebble Beach Tour d'Elegance. I think this one covers most of the cars in the tour, led, as usual, by Sir Stirling and Lady Susan, in a white 300SL roadster!

I was interested to read the following on the Autoweek website regarding Derek Bell's presence as an honoured guest at the Quail Motorsports Gathering:

Among the honorees was the great Porsche driver Derek Bell, five-time winner of Le Mans. And not class wins, mind you--Bell won it overall five times. Organizers had lined up two cars to commemorate Bell's visit, a Porsche 935 and a Ferrari 250 GT.
“I didn't know what the 250 was there for,” said Bell. “Then someone explained that I had mentioned once that as a kid I had watched a 250 in a race and that it had inspired me to go into racing.”

As an enthusiast, you know you are in the right place when you see Briggs Cunningham's Le Monstre running down the road next to you.

I managed to catch up with Mike Summers for a chat and fellow Aussie, James.

'horizon' was sensational beating all but one of the 8.3 ltr McLarens with his 5.7 ltr power.

Hey that #36 is Rob Rowley, not me. He blew up his transmission. I was driving a red T70 #3 in that group. I ran #36 on a T70 coupe in the fia group and #36 on a big block Lola in the Can Am group, hence the confusion !

Yes, just copy the technique I used when seeking my wife's permission to go there in the first place.

You will have to PM me your e-mail address.

Anymore pics?

Any particular cars or categories?

And aren't the owners retired school teachers or some such.I do know they have repeatedly turned down invitations to take it to Goodwood, though they did take their SZ last year.

I thought I saw a webpage of the entry list, with chassis numbers, somewhere on the internet a while ago, but can't find it now. Anybody know where it is?
