Hi all,

I am currently documenting the history of a car I am looking to restore and use in various events. The NF members have been very helpful in finding information on two of its past Owners and drivers so far:

Charles L R Page from Chichester : I beleive he owned the car from 1960 to probably mid/end 1964, the car was a 948 cc then

Lionel Starley from Brighton : He owned the car from 1964 onward and may have used it to race though I think his so Colin Starley was the main driver. The car got upgared to a 1098 engine by Mr Starley.

Prior to being owned by Charles Page the car was owned fron 1959 to 1960 by a D. A. Starkey from Bognor Regis of whom I know nothing.

A member of the forum kindly pointed that Charles Page raced the car at the Brighton speed trials in both 1960 and 1961. I know also that Colin Starley took part in the speed trials in 1966 (i have the scrutineer ticket with his times on it), but assume that he may have taken part onto other events from 1962 to 1967.

I am due to visit the Brighton & Hove club , but need to take a day off to get there as they open only on the wednesday evening. Though whilst trying to arrange for this I have been trying desesperatly to find copies of the speed trials programme to buy for the years 1959 to 1968 as possible evidences. I wonder if someone knows where I could find those or alternatively could send me a scan of the front page and the page where the entry/results of my chaps would show.

Any clues about all of the above and my other threads would be very much appreciated. I can also be contacted by email at: pierre@lequeux.org

kind regards to all

Interesting the note re the
"Brighton & Hove club , but need to take a day off to get there as they open only on the wednesday evening"
Does anyone know what records they have and how far they go back I am trying to identify a car that ran in 1949/50 plus I would be interested to check through records of jaguars that raced at various events over the year particularly 1930's through to early 60's.
Does anyone have contact details for the club and there address etc
thanks

Brighton entries - (* is the B&HMC handicap class). I do not have the 1969 -1971 programmes.

1960 Class 1 #121 C L R Page (948cc)

1961 Class 4 #161 Charles Page (948cc)

1962/3 no entry found

1964 Class 1* #21 and Class 5 #70 L N Starley (1098cc)

1965 Class 1* #20 and Class 7 #98 L Starley (1300cc)

1966 Class 1* #21 and class 7 #121 L N Starley (1300cc) 29.76s and 30.67s Best terminal speed 105 mph.

Also in 1966 C.J . Starley drove a 1098cc Sprite in Class 6 #114 which ran 32.83s and 32.51s at 95 mph. so there were definitely two Starley owned Sprites racing in 1966.

1967 Class 1* #23 and Class 6 #105 was entered by Starley's Garage Racing Partnership for C.J Starley (1098cc). A second Sprite was also entered for L N Starley in class 1 #25 and Class 7 #119 (1294cc) The Starley Garage entered a 3rd car, a Lotus Elan #117 driven by R A York.

1968 Class 1* # 24 and Class 6 # 80 L N Starley (1300cc)

Hope this helps

Tony

Hi Tony,

This is superb information , many thanks for taking the time to go through your programmes for me, it is much appreciated. You are right about the Starley's having two car, They had both 2080 PO which is the car i now own and also another 1300 engine gt car (AUFIL 1) which i beleive was sporting a lotus engine. Could it be possible for you to send me a scan / copy of the first page of the programmes and the page that shows the time & results ? my email is pierre@lequeux.org. sure i could unearth a good bottle of red in my cellar as a compensation and send it your way....

Kind regards

Pierre
