Brian Foley phoned me today hoping I can help him determine the colours used on his 1968 Bathurst Alfa GTV...
Here's the monochrome pic he sent me:
Does anyone have a colour pic at all? The car only ran at Sandown and Bathurst in '68, so there's just two meetings to check. Mainly he wants to know the colour of the lettering in the band along the side, and to confirm that the band was black. He's in the process of doing models of a lot of the cars he raced over the years and this one has him stumped.
Oh, yeah... it's not in the Chevron/Tuckey Bathurst 50 years book.
A favour for Brian Foley?

John Swinfield would surely be able to help. He usually turns up at the 'Friday Lunch', I'll ask him then. Foley often turns up, also, so maybe the two of them can sort it out.

Foles has a notion it might be yellow lettering, but I would think he's asked people in his regular company...
A colour photo is definitely needed.

For some reason I thought i was a white car with a red band and yellow lettering. I am sure I have seen a color pic of it somewhere. Though maybe I am dreaming!

Wonder if there would be anything in Jeff Nield's collection? He certainly has Bathurst colour - don't know if he did '68 or not though...

We do know that Lance Needs was shooting colour at that race...
His is the only pic of an Alfa in the Chevron book that year. But it's the Bartlett car, not this one.
Apparently Brian has been looking at the Autopics site, but without any luck.

Ray, this shot is the cover of Autosportsman from Bathurst 1968 taken by Ian Elliot. On the real thing you can just see a hint of red flash on the Alfa in the b/ground so I'd imagine that is the Foley car. If you can get in touch with Ian Elliot you might get lucky.

Problem there, I believe, is that Ian's moved on from Serpentine Crescent...
I wonder where he is now?

have just found a photo of the Foley/Stewart Alfa - Bathurst 68 in colour coming through Murray's Corner behind the Roberts/Watson Monaro - the alfa writing is yellow on a black background.I'll ask around and see if I can find him.
The photo is from a chevron publication 2008 - bathurst preview (i think) because the article is headed 40 years ago Monaro GTS 327written by Steve Normoyle. Hope this helps

Y'know, the red and yellow sounded good to me...
That's because the panel doesn't look as dark in Foles' original pic as the number on the door. Could it be a matt black and yellow?
