Erm...

willbuxton
Massive controversy in Germany. 10 teams in contravention of FIA regulations. So far only Lotus and HRT are legal (I think). No joke.

 I wonder why? The only issue I can possibly think of is blown diffusers again...

I've no idea what it could be about. Not entirely convinced it could be blown diffusers (they can't be able to check that in scrutineering.........can they? Surely not when it's not really something you can even think about checking without the cars running, and even the engine mapping side of it, they surely can't check that during scrutineering...........can they? Apologies if I seem uncertain on that, but I'm sceptical about it being blown diffusers. Will have to wait and see though, but whatever it is.........well, this could be interesting.......

Just read it myself, the first thing that comes to mind is engine mapping or hot/cold blown diffusers but how can they be found illegal of that before they've even ran the cars?

What is it with F1 and..............

Fuel Tanks. Your heard it here first.
Not really.

Its most probably something comical, like truck parking or something.

Can't be anything other than diffusers as surely the FIA would have picked up on whatever it is by now.

SPEED TV pit lane reporter and GP2 + GP3 commentator. He's pretty reliable.

@MarussiaVirgin

@willbuxton I'm hearing that two teams have non-compliant driver overalls but no other issues?

Maybe Will is misinformed? i've got deja vu. Seriously.

Heard nothing on this apart from what this Will Buxton is saying, and even the teams seem to have heard nothing. Methinks this is another of those 'Kubica will be at Monaco' things. Maybe he's been at the Píswasser already

I dont think Buxton is the type to deliberately mislead or publish rumours he hasnt substantiated.

@WillBuxton reports only Lotus and HRT are FIA compliant in Germany? Assume it is some local bye law.

What about them? Honda style again?

Honda style fuel tank was perfectly legal (iirc, most teams had that style of tank). Counting part of the fuel in a Honda style tank as part of the weight of the car for the minimum weight regulation was illegal. So no way that's caused the controversy on a Thursday as that's not an issue that would be picked up in pre-race scrutineering.

The issue, incredibly, is driver overalls. FIA compliance must be stitched to collars. Screen prints are thus illegal.

Just when I thought F1 controversies couldn't get any more ridiculous....

I'm pretty just I've noticed a lot of teams who don't have the FIA approval actually stitched in but surely they are just going to make a one-off exception and tell them to get it sorted for Hungary. Anything else would be lunacy.

In that case then we best get my Grandma over to Germany. She's good at stitching and all of that and it won't cost the teams a penny...

Talk about a non-story! Is this the level of journalism in F1 these days? It'll take, what, 15 minutes to sew on some labels.

Even stitching a patch to the collar apparently will not suffice according to sources tonight. I know this seems crazy. Crazy but true.
