Is Tom Wojahn, the artist who did so many cartoons for Open Wheel and Stock Car Racing magazines still alive?

I do, but I can't answer your question.

Didn't he do cartoons for Competition Press and Sports Car Graphic in the 60s?

A certain Thomas R. Wojahn, aged 85 (b. Dec 1925), seems to be living in Rockford, Illinois. (Source)
He seems to be an artist. (Source)
So that would fit.

I believe that Tom has passed away. At the Indy 500 memorabilia show at the speedway this year, I believe I spoke to his daughter or another relative that was selling photos and she told me he had passed.

Tom Wohahn was indeed an artist from Rockford, IL who did cartoon drawings for various automotive publications - and has passed away.

Very sad, I loved his cartoon from Open Wheel magazine.

Tom Wojahn is alive and well in Rockford,Ill.,he is 90 years old and lives in Arizona in the winter months,he is still drawing cartoons and painting automobile related pictures to sell at local markets. His passion is vintage aircraft from the first and second  World War,I have a couple of these paintings. He just pin striped a vintage car for me last summer and also did my new truck for me.His hands are steadier than mine, for a man of his age he is in great health,I don't know how the rumor got started that he passed away, but it is not true.

Well that is splendid news indeed.

Some one should put out a book of his cartoons.

In a odd way this reminds of of Tom's old cartoons.

Sorry to revive such an old thread. Tom is alive and well. As mjgaig posted above, he lives in AZ, and in Rockford IL. I'm in Rockford, and he's my back yard neighbor. Last summer he had a couple projects in his driveway - one in particular was a cool set of cartoon eyes painted on an old travel trailer, along with some hand lettering. In a neighboring town this year it looks like he was an honored guest.

" ...less than 2 weeks til the 10th annual Scrap Drive rod show and swapmeet,......last year we had 400+ swap vendors and 300 cars
...our live band this year will be Big Earl & the Falcons, a local Rockford area group who play country, rock, rockabilly etc.
...for our 10th year we will have 2 color event shirts, 2016 scrap drive 001.jpg 2016 scrap drive 009.jpg get yours early as they sell out fast,..the black one is shown above, we also have a dirty grey shirt.
...as usual, we'll have 3D sound DJ, a pinup girl contest and good food.
...this year we are doing a tribute to local artist, pinstriper, cartoonist Tom Wojahn, ...
we will have posters for you to autograph, that will be presented to Tom after the show.
...hope to see you there.
...a big THANKS to all who have made this show a success in the past!"

I don't know him, i just know who he is, and saw an earlier poster thought he had passed away. He and his wife will be leaving here soon and heading back west. Because of their age, and our cooler climate, we always wonder if they are going to come back in the spring.
