Osram GEC OR Osram/BARC special saloon car championship started as one of several series for saloons in the late 60's early 70's.
I am gathering Entry lists, results , stories, for this period.
As i have several pieces for 1970 , i wll start with this year , it seems that it was called Osram/BARC in the programmes i have , does anyone know when it changed from Osram/GEC ?.
Looking at 1970 the front runners seemed to be Gerry Marshall[ Viva], Roger Williamson [Anglia],Terry McNally [Anglia], Ray Payne[ Imp], Geoff Wood [Vitamin],Richard Longman[Cooper s] and Roy Pierpoint [Traco Rover],David Brodie [Escort "run baby run"]etc
the 1.0 litre class had 4 front running imps [John Turner, Andy Holloway, Alistair McHardy, and Payne]
If any has time to help with the collection of data i would be grateful .
Pete

The most important Special Saloon championship that year seems to have been the BRSCC's Hepolite-Glacier series, won by Roger Williamson (Anglia) against competition which included Dave Brodie's Escort. Others were the BRDC Triplex series (David Howes, Falcon), the Brands Hatch-based Atlantic Petroleum series (Turner), the BRSCC Northern (Ken Walker, Mini) and the TEAC (Peter Baldwin)

3. Dave Minchin (1.3 Mini) 34pts
G.Allen (850 Mini) 34pts
5. Ray Payne (1.0 Hillman Imp) 27pts

I am pretty certain I have all the final points scoring for the BARC Saloon championships between 1967-1972 ( and possibly more) so let me know what you need.

Also, wasn't the Cibie Cup something more production-based? I'm fairly sure Bill Blydenstein won it in '60 or '61 and it included sprints as well as races.
Back to the Osram, my late father won £80 for wininning his class in 1970 (with five 1sts, one 2nd, two 3rds, an 18th (still classified) a retirement and two non-starts) and he also won it again in 1971 (with eight 1sts, two 2nds, a 5th and a retirement) but am not sure if the same prize-money was forthcoming.
I have loads of photos, trophies, programmes and period reports ifyou need anything in particular Pete.

If I could upload a scan I'd put the page from the programme up for you; in the meantime, I'll have a look for another programme or two.

Gregor, the Redex Championship was run solely on the MCD circuits (Brands, Snetterton, Mallory, Oulton) but was not club specific. Was 1969 not the Redex Gold Cros Championship or as it was run by the BRSCC a completey different championship and not included in this?

It is mentioned that it was a BRSCC championship but this was a BARC meeting , how rare was it for a club to run another's championship ?
Secondly does anyone have the results of this 2 part race i was there but cant recall who won i suspect it was Dave Brodie as i know some only did race one,
I think that either Peter Baldwin or Mario Concalves won the 1300 class.

i will be in touch Gregor .

I have most Snett progs scanned from the 60s & 70s, a few 50s too. Only a handful missing from 60s/70s.
Scanned for a long term on-going project with the circuit. Very few show Osram races. I have plenty of others too from other circuits, but have not got these scanned.
Here are some Snetterton ones, various special saloon championships from this period. At the time my father was a mechanic on one of the big Anglias. Hope they may be of some use..certainly brings back the memories seeing some of
the names!

The Hepolite Glacier Championship, like the Redex which preceded it (see my previous post) , was run mainly at MCD circuits (Brands, Mallory, Oulton, Snetterton) and was not, I think, a specifically BRSCC championship. As far as I recall it did happen that a BARC organised meeting could include a round of the Hepolite championship if it wasn't a qualifying round of its own championship.Mention of the Hepolite -Glacier Championship throws up another point for me , there was a sort of two part round at Snetterton on 27th March 1971, yes i know that's one year later but bare with me .
It is mentioned that it was a BRSCC championship but this was a BARC meeting , how rare was it for a club to run another's championship ?

The March 28 th meeting on my 1st post i remember the John Hewitt Ford Falcon Sprint carried Apollo 5? i think on the front spoiler .
The Ford Escorts were very colourful, The "Run Baby Run" Brodie Black , Andy O'Keefe Bargain Wallpapers pale blue and orange?, Derek Ridlers VIP Petroleum orange/red ?,
David Coleman's Purple version.
Eric Chappell 's Gold , and Bob Torries were among my favorites.
