Nürburgring. A few b&w pictures from my friend's archive

I will start with a shot taken at what I believe was the Eifelrennen in April 1967 when the winter had not yet come to an end. What you see is the field of Formula V cars at the end of the back straight and turning in the so-called "Nordkurve". This part of the old Nordschleife does no longer exist, but had been replaced with the new GP track in 1983/84. Note the white layer on the tarmac. There had been snow on the track hours before so obviously they had removed it very quickly.
I should mention that I have Harry's permission to post the pictures. In case a width of 1,200 p should be too wide then please let me know.

I imagine the bags would have been full of salt or sand to clear the snow ?

I can't help but think that for once, treaded tires were a big advantage.
Fantastic!

But please, can you trim the pics down to 750 pixels or so? It's an absolute pain scrolling across and back to look at the text and the pics.

Great pics of an event that didn't get great coverage...

There are only a few in 1,200 p. Most of the others are 1,024 p which seems to be fine even for my small notebook. Would that be all right?

Piers Courage and Chris Irwin?
I am not 100% sure but yes, I would say so. Both took part in the '67 Eifelrennen.

In other words, it's the size that's a recommended maximum. On my screen, it's awkward when things go over about 900 pixels and 1200 is an absolute pain.
So keep the great pics coming, but please get the size down a bit.

It would be a good idea for this requirement to be included in the 'TNFs: Read Me' sticky at the top of the page, which it currently isn't.Glad we went on Friday, weather-wise!
Brilliant photos chaps, especially from the rally 'stage'...
PS Could we please keep the photos posted at a maximum of 800/850 pixels in width? Thanks

It's a free download and really makes it easy to resize, crop, sharpen, do a whole host of things with pics quickly and without fuss.

Not your fault, Michael - you weren't to know. I've just suggested to our moderator Twin Window that the photo width requirement be included in the 'TNFs: Read Me' guide, so new members from now on will know. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing some more of your fascinating photos.I am sorry, gentlemen. This is probably a classic for newbies.

If you had to find a way to do it, you need to know about Irfanview...
It's a free download and really makes it easy to resize, crop, sharpen, do a whole host of things with pics quickly and without fuss.
The problem was that I had uploaded most of the pictures already. However, the server I'd chosen offers a way to reduce the size and store both copies.
I understand that images in upright format should be less than 800..850 p wide. So this is ~600 p and hopefully it works for this forum. It helps to introduce myself again, because of all the three people dressed in white you will certainly know two - and the unknown one is me. Großer Preis von Deutschland, 1968, the famous rain-and-fog Grand Prix that Sir Jackie Stewart calls the race of his life. The picture was taken in the paddock and on the Saturday between practice sessions.

Doesn't the chap to the right look like a young Jody Scheckter ?
Yes, the McLaren mechanic does look like Jody Scheckter. The question arouse before and even though I would like to say I was standing next to a present and a future Champion unfortunately it would not be true.

Shocking that's not Jody....
EDIT: That is one fine photo for you to be in as a kid! My first race shooting was when just under 15. Great memory for you!

I don't think I would question the Chris Irwin identification but Piers? Look at a picture of him, he certainly didn't have a round face.
I know it's a negative assertion but looking through the drivers that took part I can't actually say that the chap sitting on the tyre looks like anyone I recognise.

Could the chap on the tyre be Hubert Hahne ?
It could be, but Hahne was driving a (white) BMW and it is not very likely to see him sitting on the tire of a different car. I believe it is really Piers Courage. But again, I am not sure.

Piers Courage is not in that scene. Hahne could have been 'visiting' another pit for a chat.

My initial thought was Courage, too, but I can now see that it isn't him. Doesn't look like Hahne, either, so my guess would be Jackie Oliver.
I thought JO as well, these photos seem to resemble the fellow in question

But if the identifications of the main photo on this page is correct, I'm now inclined to think it IS Courage or possibly Hahne.
